Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church….Ephesians  5: 25

My 7:OO am train from Carmel to New York City was quiet as riders followed the etiquette of the morning compute on talking on cell phone or to others catching up on sleep.  Grand Central  Terminal was bustling with the people crisscrossing the station floor on the way to their destinations.  I headed south on Madison Avenue, walking eight city blocks to the Guideposts  editorial office.

I was just a few steps away from the building when my cell phone rang. “Honey I was in a car accident,” my wife said.  The city became silent and came to a standstill .  I could feel my heart beating. I took a deep breath and asked, “Are you okay?”‘ “I’m fine ,” Elba said.  “I’m just a bit shaken up.”  I could feel the tension in my muscles relax.  She explained that on her way back home after dropping me off at the train station, the driver of a van lost control on the slippery road, crossed into her lane and slammed into the car.  “She’s ok too,” Elba said.

Earlier in our marriage, when I was young and foolish and in a similar situation, the first words out of my mouth were, “How was the car” This time I knew better. That evening at home Elba said, “Thanks, “Thank you for asking me how I was doing when I called you.  It meant a lot that you though of me first.”  This time around, I got it right.

Lord make sure that my love ones are always first in my heart—Pablow Diaz
