Did You Know Kitty Wells Hit Was Originally Banned?
Did you know Kitty Wells, ‘It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels’ was Originally banned
Kitty Wells’ first hit was banned from NBC radio and the Grand Ole Opry — before becoming a hit, of course. ‘It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels’ was in response to a song about cheating women. Wells became the voice for married women across America who were sick of watching their husbands “think they’re still single” while they tended to the kids at home. Despite launching a new movement of female country singers, Wells would later tell NPR that she was no feminist.
