“FATHER , FAILURE TO PRAY ISN’T AN OPTION FOR “YOUR PEOPLE IS IT ?”
AUTHOR: MARION BOND WEST
Gene I begged my husband, “Will you come with me to look for a coffee table?” His expression said it all, Gene hates to shop. “Never mind.” I was still hopeful that I’d find the table of my dreams.
Sure enough, I found the ideal one: oval shaped with a glad top-from the 1950s’. The owner of the shop and I struck up an impromptu friendship and had a lengthy conversation. She was helping me to carry it to my car when we heard screeching brakes, a horrifying thud and then high-pitched screams. We quickly put down the table, and she sprinted into the street with some other pedestrians. I froze in the doorway of her shop. Obviously , someone had been been hit. Should I run into the street? However I sensed silent instructions. Stay put and pray.
“Oh father, have mercy. Let them live and not die.” The screams continued; so did my prayers. After two ambulances carried the victims to the hospital, I drove home, still shaken, still praying.
The next day, I read that a father and two children had been hit. The mother and another child had remained on the sidewalk. “Miraculously , every one was okay,” the article stated. Putting aside the newspaper , I settled down in my prayer chair with my journal and Bible on my new table— – and a new sense of urgency about prayer, and obedience.
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray…”- 2 Chronicles 7″14
