Crystal Gayle’s Christmas Sugar Cookies
INGREDIENTS:
¾ cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2½ cups flour (regular, not self-rising)
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
PREPARATION:
- Mix first four ingredients together (butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla)
- Blend in last three ingredients (flour, baking powder, salt)
- Chill in refrigerator for one hour minimum
- Pre-heat oven to 400° F
- Roll out dough 1/8 inch thick on a board covered with a lightly floured cloth or lightly floured wax paper
- Cut out shapes with Christmas cookie cutters
- Sprinkle with colored sugar or other toppings
- Place on ungreased cookie sheet
- Bake 6–8 minutes until very light brown
Serves 12–18
