FAREWELL TO A FRIEND, AN INSPIRATION AND AN INCREDIBLE MUSICIAN

Southern Gypsey Queen drummer Paul Wilson, died of a heart attack on Wednesday afternoon at Molteno Hospital, in the Eastern Cape.

He was only 29.Wilson had been suffering from a serious case of meningitis, but had been expected to recover.

Inspired by John Bonham, Chad Smith, Matt Sorum and Taylor Hawkins – Paul Wilson, embraced life to the full – he drummed his way into people’s hearts through his incredible talent as a drummer with Southern Gypsey Queen, the incredible positive outlook he had for everything he did and the constant smile that he wore.

His sudden death was a great shock to all of us, as he was a great friend, with a vibrant and happy personality. The way that Paul impacted people’s lives was clear on Wednesday evening as the new broke – with messages of condolences filling time lines, Facebook walls and trending maps online.

There are no words to express the loss that friends, family and the music industry in South Africa are experiencing. Our thoughts are with his friends and family. Paulie – We’re going to miss you.
