One Year Later and Entertainers are still Struggling
One Year Later and Nothing Has Changed For Independent Artists Worldwide
This Was The Situation last year this time 2020: Nobody seems to care about the thousands of musicians, DJs, singers, entertainers who have lost their weekly gigs due to the Worldwide shutdowns. In most cases, these hard-working entertainers have no other form of income and live from gig to gig to support themselves and their families. No one pays them while they don’t work and they get no compensation for canceled shows from the bars, pubs, and venues they were booked to play. Now they are all out of work just like that and no one seems to care. For those who have permanent employment and who will get paid while the lockdown is in force just remember we are not all that lucky, give these entertainers some thought and a little sympathy for they could be your friends or even your family.
This Is The Situation This year 2021: Nobody seems to care about the thousands of musicians, DJs, singers, entertainers who have lost their weekly gigs due to the Worldwide shutdowns. In most cases, these hard-working entertainers have no other form of income and live from gig to gig to support themselves and their families. No one pays them while they don’t work and they get no compensation for canceled shows from the bars, pubs, and venues they were booked to play. Now, most all those entertainers are still out of work, and no one seems to care. For those who have permanent employment and who will get paid while the lockdowns are in force just remember entertainers are not all that lucky. Give these entertainers some thought and a little sympathy for if you took the time to look a little closer, one of them may even be an old friend or family member you haven’t seen in a while.
Yes if you read both the 2020 and the 2021 comments above you may agree that nothing much has changed. However, it can be argued that there have been some changes, as some musicians will be playing their guitars and singing their songs not only at the pubs and bars anymore for a living wage but at the traffic lights and sidewalks in the hope of a small handout from passing motorists.
It is a fact that unemployment is exceptionally high for artists and much higher than most all others affected by the covid rules and regulations. It is said that the difference is likely due to the fact that performing artists are much more likely to be self-employed. There is also very little hope among self-employed entertainers that the entertainment business will ever return to normal again, as governments seem to prefer early curfews as a way to keep the public, off the streets at night.
Next time you are driving around and find a musician at the traffic lights or on a sidewalk playing your favorite song for free, at least give him or her the small change or more in your pocket you really don’t need, and consider yourself lucky you don’t have to sing for your meal tonight.
