JIM SHANNON [ex KULF-790, WIL- DJ] (Ellisville-St. Louis, MO) Subject: Old KULF Staff. Jim, Thanks for passing on the info from Jeff (Mac) McClain regarding George Thomas and Bill Grant. Looks like the only remaining original jocks from KULF that are above ground are Jeff McClain, Bill Grant and myself. Well it was 46 years ago! Thanks for helping filling in the blanks Jim. KEN DOWE [CEO Service Broadcasting #1 KKDA FM (104.5) / EVP McLendon Corp. #1 KLIF-1190] (Dallas, TX) Subject: Jim Rose. Jim is correct. Even TV’s rating darlings, America’s Team – the Dallas Cowboys, with their steady light’s out ratings (the reason they’re there so often) on television… got crushed by a “baseball” game Sunday night. The Cowboys are this year’s hottest NFL team and America’s most financially valuable sports asset. But, the Cubs-Indians had a third more TV audience Sunday night, as the NFL’s spiral continues to look like a spiked football. The American people appear to be tiring of a game already inhabited by too many thugs, some of whom seem to enjoy exhibiting in-your-face disrespect for their country and team supporters. These pathetic protesters are getting flagged by paying customers, even as the NFL refuses to tackle a costly problem. kd

DAN MCCURDY [formerly Charlie & Harrigan-KLIF-1190/KBOX-1480 Dallas, TX/WMEX Boston, MA] (Sherman, TX) Subject: My short quote… Jim…my truncated quote in the November 4 JRRR, was misleading by its brevity! You printed ‘O’Reilly Out!’ which is only a remote possibility! He still has a year to go on his FOX contract, and while his agreement is similar to Van Sustern’s and Hannity’s, allowing departure if Ailes left, I doubt that the rumor of Trump TV piracy will prevail with either him Or Hannity. FOX continues its cable dominance as do O’Reilly and Hannity, and my guess is that those two BIG ‘Sleeping Dawgs’ will continue to lie on the FOX front porch. Trump TV is just a nice little unknown and a minimal threat to the FOX Force in cable command nationwide. Seasoned veterans like Bill and Sean know better than to jump from an ironclad like FOX to a well provisioned mystery ship like Trump TV. Plus, the smart money is on attractive mega-raises from FOX for both leading broadcasters. Dan McCurdy, Sherman, TX; KLIF, KBOX, WMEX, KRBC, KLBK; 2004 Inductee in the Texas Radio Hall of Fame

TRIVIA ANSWER: Los Angeles, CA radio DJ Charlie O’Donnell reads the news while Simon and Garfunkel sing the Classic Christmas carol Silent Night from their third studio album, Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme(1966). Charles John [Charlie] O’Donnell radio and television announcer, primarily known for his work on TV game shows. He is best known for Wheel of Fortune from 1975 to 1980 and again from 1989 until his death in 2010. Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak describes O’Donnell as the perfect voice of the show.

CHUCK DUNAWAY [ex WABC-770, WKY-930, KILT-610, KLIF-1190] (Houston-Katy, TX) Jim; Funny how things change in life. I now read your column to discover who among my peers has passed away. Take care and hang in there. I’m 81 and still feeling pretty good. After all those packs of Winston’s I have no right to be so healthy, but I’m sure grateful. I stopped puffing on those killer cigarettes about 30 years ago… Chuck (www.chuckdunawaydj.com/)

WINSTON JINGLE (1954 – 1972) Winston tastes good like a cigarette should.
