BANGLADESH ATTACKERS MURDER WRITER On Thursday night, ‎February ‎26, ‎2015 as author-blogger Avijit Roy [42] and his wife Rafida Ahmed Bonya [45] attend a book fair in Bangladesh’s capital, a pair of machete-wielding attackers swoop down and savagely murder him. Through his blog, Mukto-Mona, Roy condemns religious extremism. Roy’s 2014 book Biswasher Virus, is sadly prophetic: Avijit Roy lives in America…it is not possible to kill him right now. But he will be murdered when he comes back.

BIG BROTHER GRABS THE INTERNET We come under more government control when the Federal Communications Commission passes major new regulations on the Internet that impact just about any and every American who uses the Internet. Big Brother reclassifies consumer broadband as a utility. That’s right! On a strictly party-line vote, the FCC grabs control of the Internet. Republican appointed commissioner Ajit Pai calls it sad to witness the Commission replacing Internet freedom with government control.

WILL CBS MERGE WITH CUMULUS? Hedge fund Sandell Asset Management proposes a merger between Cumulus and CBS Radio. If CBS spins off its radio stations to investors, it divests an asset with a low tax basis without incurring a large bill from the IRS. Plus, CBS can also collect a nearly $900 million dividend. Cumulus benefits give it greater scale and reduced leverage. The proposed combination with CBS’s (radio) stations (produces) $2.4B in sales, and a projected market cap of nearly $5B.

I know anchor Tom Joles, reporter Stuart Dyson, Stuart and I worked together at KOB radio in the 80’s. Both are honest straight shooters. As you know, some times news rooms can get very stressful. Not sure what really happened. Also, I made a mistake in the Joe Leonard story, he was 95 years old. RIP Mr. Leonard. Frank

BEN HAROLD [ex KXOL-1360, KENR-1060] (Knoxville, TN) It’s ALWAYS great to hear back from you, Jim. we’ve been around so long there are not many of us left. as I mentioned before, I remember Harrel EXTREMELY well. you know, he kind of reminds me of John Tyler (later). when I was at KLIF-1190. John was the contract gm for Fairchild. John owned an am/fm/tv in Oklahoma. like Harrel, he was a total maniac! since he was rarely AT KILF, he really didn’t know anyone. if I recall, he actually FIRED one of the Dallas Cowboys. the poor fellow waits to be interviewed for a sports actuality and John, apparently, hears something he didn’t like on-air. he curses the player out and yells that he was fired. like I said, John was a maniac…exactly like Harrel. take care, old friend! and please pet Suzie for me. I tell my wife about you all the time and read her JRRR (and explain to her what insanity happened in the olden days)…so she says hi! Ben

TRIVIA ANSWER: On October 13, 1989 Dow Jones experiences its second largest drop in history. This event becomes known as the Friday the 13th mini crash.

JOANIE GREEN-GALLO [Longtime Houston, TX DJ/traffic reporter] (Tulsa, OK) Bless your heart! Congrats on still having the brown hair! I will be 64 next month and I have one or two gray hairs. I noticed them just recently. My baby fine hair is still its dark brown, minus two. It’s really interesting to me. I suspect a few grays more will creep in. I have a couple of laugh lines around my eyes when I laugh, but I’m often told I don’t “look my age…”. I am most grateful for that!!! Joanie
