POLITICAL CORRECTNESS IS WAY OUT OF HAND Being a single guy, food preparation and cooking are my duties. TV star chefs like Paula Deen on The Food Network give mighty good ideas for meals. But when the barbaric media gets it in for you they have no morals. The media gets word about a discrimination lawsuit filed last year by a disgruntled ex employee who manages Uncle Bubba’s Seafood and Oyster House, which is a Savannah restaurant that Deen and her brother Bubba Hiers own. This woman goes for Paula’s neck for $1M. As result of the massive media display on the 66-year-old Southern kitchen celebrity, the Food Network refuses to renew her contract. Her book publisher cancels her deal for books, which includes an upcoming cookbook on www.Amazon.com

FM CHIP IN CELL PHONES A huge breakthrough in the radio industry is when Sprint, America’s third-largest wireless provider, agrees to make FM radio accessible on a number of its Android and Windows cellular devices. Emmis Communications CEO Jeff Smulyan who champions FM Chips makes his quarterly earnings announcement this week. Up until recently Smulyan only says that the app that will ignite the chip on phones will be ready later this year. Since Smulyan convinces Sprint to install the FM Chip in some of its 2013 phones, Emmis works on the app that it hopes the entire radio industry will embrace much like it’s embraced iHeartRadio.

STEVEN SEAGAL IS A WONDERFUL ACTOR Admire movie action actor Steven Seagal because he has a pair of big beautiful doggies who are trained attack dogs but like my 100 lb. Akita girl doggie, Lacy, in his presence they are sweethearts. We watch Steven Seagal in movies mow down aggressive attackers with swift moves of his hands. For 20 years he is a deputy sheriff in Jefferson parish LA. As a huge Akita doggie Lacy begins to shred her fur in big handfuls inside our home. On Friday she has an appointment at the doggie grooming salon on Memorial Avenue here in far west Houston, TX. Lacy exits the doggie grooming salon looking good. She prances like the princess that she is. You can watch the exciting Steven Seagal: Lawman TV reality series on Reelz TV.

WHAT’LL YOU BID? Trivia is a huge market. Fans flock to auctions for radio, TV and movie memorabilia. On January 19, 2013 during the Barrett-Jackson car auction in Scottsdale, AZ the original Batmobile vehicle sells for $4.2 million. On July 19, 2012 before its auction in Etwall, England fans view a slice of toast on a plate that commemorates the Royal Wedding of Britain’s Prince Charles and Princess Diana. The piece of toast left over from the breakfast table of Charles and Diana goes for $361. On February 11, 2013 at the Hotel Drouot auction house in Paris, France Pop singer Lady Gaga’s shoes circa 2010 by Emporio Armani that Lady Gaga wears during the The Monster Ball Tour concert at Paris Bercy on December 19, 2010 go for more than $10,000.

BRUCE ELROD [Cash Box & Record World owner/publisher] (Ridgeway, SC) Subject: Today’s Almost Forgotten Oldie–“Music Box Dancer”. In 1979, disco music still ruled on the pop chart…and the pop music scene contained mostly songs my late mother could care less about. With this huge noticeable exception… www.youtube.com/watch?v=2N_tmH6y7ng “Music Box Dancer” by Frank Mills, who turns 71 Thursday, was one 3:12-long piano-dominated instrumental that my mom absolutely loved. But then, so did the rest of the USA. “Music Box Dancer” reached #2 on the Cash Box pop chart In April of 1979. It was kept out of #1 by “What a Fool Believes” by the Doobie Brothers and the disco remake “Knock On Wood” by Amii Stewart.

He also did the “Cisco Kid” which (h)e shot in color. Pat McCutchin

BLAKE LINDSAY [ex Dallas & San Antonio, TX DJ] (Dallas-Addison, TX) Subject: Jim Rose Remembers Radio (#1211) June 28, 2013 [Friday] Thank you very much Jim, for quoting my longtime friend and mentor Zig Ziglar. I had the opportunity to visit with his son Tom last week for an hour. Tom is like a brother to me, nearly twins age wise. Those Ziglar’s are true blue when it comes to walking the walk, and not just talking the talk. Thank you also Jim for keeping up your excellent thoughtful work for all these years. Still enjoy as much as ever. Blazin’ Blake Lindsay

DAVID FAULKNER [KTNS-1600 Plano/KFJZ-870 Ft. Worth] (Dallas, TX) Subject: KTNS-1600 news… Hey Jim, KTNS was 24/7 (5KW day/1KW night) with one exception. We signed off at midnight Sunday and signed back on in time to hit 5AM Monday ABC News. Not sure why we did that. I arrived around 3AM on Mondays to start preparing things for our 6 to 9AM newscast. Did the sign on at 4:58, I think. Tues thru Fri mornings, I had been there since 11PM. You mentioned people spending time on Facebook in one of our previous exchanges. Maybe some of them are reading your newsletter. I post each edition on my Twitter and Facebook pages. Others probably share it that way too. Best, David

TRIVIA ANSWER: TV’s popular western series Gunsmoke airs from 1955-75. One of the first movie actors who gains fame on Gunsmoke is Burton Leon [Burt] Reynolds, Jr. born in Lansing, MI on February 11, 1936. Burt plays Indian Blacksmith Quint Asper from 1962-65. He attends Florida State University on a football scholarship, but an injury turns him to drama with a scholarship to the Hyde Park Playhouse. But, in 1977 we remember Burt as Bo [Bandit] Darville in  Smokey and the Bandit with Sheriff Buford T. Justice hot on his trail. From 1963–1965 his wife is Laugh In co-star Judy Carne. From 1988-93 Reynolds’ wife is WKRP in Cincinnati co-star Loni Anderson. In 1997 his role as a porn director in Boogie Nights earns him a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination plus a Golden Globe.

JOHN GARY [One of my favorite Pop singers] (November 29, 1932 – January 4, 1998) It’s this business. It’s like the Marines. You don’t have to know everyone real well, but it’s like they’re your brothers. That’s what show biz is.
