RATE THE DEBATE On Wednesday evening, October 3, 2012 all America’s eyes were glued to one of the many cable TV channels that carried the first debate between 2012 U.S. Presidential candidates Mitt Romney and current President Obama.
Mitt appears to be aggressive while Obama looks around for his valued teleprompter. Even liberal MSNBC is condemning Obama for failing to show more fight. Many say that Mitt Romney emerged the clear winner over the more taciturn and passive President Obama. One striking moment during the debate is when Romney looks Lehrer in the eye and says that he will eliminate federal funding for PBS.
What are your thoughts? Who won the debate? Give us your brief thoughts at rosekkkj@earthlink.net.

The Beach Boys as they are Today ?

BEACH BOYS END TOUR WITH BREAK UP Since the 1960s, one of America’s favorite Rock groups is The Beach Boys who cheer us up with their California Surf Music. Lead singer Brian Wilson writes many of their tunes. In late-April 2012, The Beach Boys begin their 50th anniversary tour in Tucson, AZ with a lengthy 42-song roster, plus a new album, That’s Why God Made the Radio.
On Friday night, The Beach Boys close their tour at the Wembley Arena in London. But trouble brews behind the scenes. The Beach Boys good vibrations turn to bad vibrations when Mike Love disagrees with fellow Beach Boy Brian Wilson and seeks millions of dollars in damages. For upcoming tours Mike Love, who owns
The Beach Boys name, wants to dump the group’s founder Brian Wilson, Al Jardine and David Marks and continue with his own band with its fifth member, Bruce Johnston. Wouldn’t it be nice if the Beach Boys could all get along?

The AFM protests on both coasts: in New York Today, Good Morning America and Late Show with David Letterman plus in Los Angeles Tonight, Dancing with the Stars and Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Give musicians fair pay for fair play. According to AFM officials: musicians who play on these shows last received a pay raise in 2005, when ABC, CBS and NBC last approved a new contract.

JOAN PATE-DAY (Cedar Creek Lake, TX) Subject: video. Watched James Marvell’s video. Welcomed change from today’s loud music, not overbearing singers voice. Actually heard and understood lyrics.
No big hat covering half face, no wild sex, no drunks, no holes in his pants, just clean entertainment. We need more artists like him.
.
DAVID FAULKNER [KTNS-1600 Plano/KFJZ-870 Ft. Worth] (Dallas, TX) Subject: Andy Williams. Greetings Jim & Lacy, Growing up my radio was often on KLIF (1190.) But, several of the grown ups listened to “The Gentle Sound” of KRLD or one of DFW’s several Beautiful Music stations.
Andy Williams was a staple of those. And, of course, he was on TV for many years. More recently, I enjoyed hearing Mr. Williams as the guest one week on NPR’s “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me.” Glad that he & his music are part of the variety that I grew up hearing & appreciating.
He was one of the best! Peace, David Faulkner

CHARLES GEORGE (Dallas, TX) Subject: Is Radio Really Dead? In my Speech class I had two friends at the time: Joe Jeff Glodblatt and Jerry Karlovich. Jerry already had his 1st Class license, if I remember correctly, and did a show on KNER at the Buckner Children’s Home. I am not sure whether he is still in Broadcasting. He was also in my Geometry Class along with a Randy Adams. Jeff Glodblatt was good as a Thespian. I talk with him a few times after I graduated, but lost contact with him. Joe once suggested that I teach Speech Therapy, since I had learned how to overcome certain problems through Speech Therapy myself. Charles George KC5RAI

TODAYS TRIVIA ANSWER:

Roger Daltrey, The Who’s lead singer, stutters on their hit record My Generation because he does not rehearse the song before the  recording session and forgets the words plus he cannot hear his own voice through the monitors.
He tries to put lyrics to the music but The Who decides to leave his vocal blunder in the song.
The BBC refuses to play My Generation because it doesn’t want to offend fans who stutter.
But, after My Generation soars to #2 on the UK charts, the BBC changes its mind.
