BURIAL PLOT FOUND FOR BOSTON BOMBER Radio Ink reports that Chaz of Chaz and AJ in the Morning Talk show on CMG Rock WPLR FM (99.1) in Hartford/New Haven/Milford, CT offers to personally purchase a burial plot (up to $1,000.00) for Boston Bombing Suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev just as long as it’s not in his home state of Connecticut or in Massachusetts where the bombing occurs. Chaz says: We’ve been through enough in this state; I can speak for most Connecticut residents when I say we REALLY don’t want him here. We’ve had some historically horrible things happen recently, we don’t want Connecticut to be known as a final resting place of a terrorist. Chaz further states: This is where I draw the line. Not in my backyard.

FUGEES SINGER GOES TO PRISON As a teenager in the 1990s, Lauryn Hill begins as a singer with the Fugees. In 1998, she releases her multiplatinum solo album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. In 2012, the Grammy-winning 37-year-old singer pleads guilty to failing to pay taxes on more than $1.8 million earned from 2005 to 2007. Also on the agenda are unpaid state and federal taxes in 2008 and 2009 that brings her total earnings to about $2.3 million. On Monday, May 6, 2013 as NJ U.S. Magistrate Madeline Cox Arleo orders singer Lauryn Hill to serve three months in prison. Hill compares her experience in the music industry to the slavery her ancestors endure. She pleads to the judge: I am a child of former slaves who had a system imposed on them. I had an economic system imposed on me.

KULF’S PENTHOUSE SUITE LIES IN RUIN People change, things come and go but it’s mighty difficult to imagine the present state of the elegant 14 floor castle that once houses Top 40 KULF-790 in its penthouse suite during my time as a DJ there from 1978-80 and in the 1950s King of the Wildcatters Glenn McCarthy’s plush Cork Club with Frank Sinatra. James Dean clones oil tycoon McCarthy in the movie Giant. Central Square Plaza previously known as Central Bank building and earlier Century building at 2100 Travis in Houston, TX’s Midtown District with its marble elevators stands vacant for 15 years. It’s as if people just walk away from their desks and never return. Hallelujah! Local real estate investor Keeley Megarity purchases and will gut and restore the historic shrine.

JACK PARNELL [former DJ on WHBQ-560] (Memphis, TN) Jim: You’re so right about Wink (Martindale); he was honored with a special award last year by the TN Radio Hall of Fame, and I was honored to introduce him and present his award. He knew he’d won and asked me to present him. We had a great time reliving some of those days of yore in radio. I notice you’re in Houston; I’m sure you weren’t there when my very close friend Jay Cook was PDing a station there, on his way to becoming President of Gannett Radio. What a great, talented, and extremely nice guy he was. We always stayed in close touch…he called me about 2 days before he died, knowing it wouldn’t be long. JP

MIKE BRAUN [ex KWTX FM/AM] (Ft. Worth, TX) Subject: Obit: William “Bill” Emerson Moore; ex-KCUL, Fort Worth and other Texas stations. Jim, We’ve lost another pioneer broadcaster: William “Bill” Emerson Moore. I saw his obituary in the “Fort Worth Star-Telegram” on May 5. Here’s a link to his obit and photo: www.legacy.com/obituaries/dfw/obituary.aspx?n=william-emerson-moore-bill&pid=164615834&fhid=4250#fbLoggedOut Mr. Moore was an announcer at KCUL in Fort Worth and several other Texas radio stations. He founded The Moore Company, Inc., a radio promotional firm, in the 1950s. He sold radio time for many stations and never had a contract … a handshake was always good enough for him. I wonder at what other Texas radio stations Mr. Moore worked? Mike Braun, KWTX-AM/FM, Waco, 1975-1979

DAVID FAULKNER [KTNS-1600 Plano/KFJZ-870 Ft. Worth] (Dallas, TX) Subject: KTNS-1600 news… Jim, Good to hear from you. That is correct. 1600AM/Plano, TX had the KTNS calls from summer of 85 to Jan of 87. It carried the ABC Talkradio format with ABC News at the top of each hour. I worked there all but a few weeks of that. In Jan 87 the station sold and went dark for several months while it relocated to Dallas. It would return to the air with a new format that I called Spanish Disco. I have no idea of its actual name. 🙂 I knew the Oakhurst, CA station got the KTNS calls. Didn’t know it was an AC format. Thought it was News/Talk. AC is more interesting. AM has too many talkers. Best to you and Lacy, David

BRYAN HOUSTON (Tyler, TX) Subject: Subscription to newsletter. Saw it on Bill Young’s Facebook page, I believe. If it’s good enough for Bill, it’s good enough for me. And my high school head football coach was born and raised in Minden (Louisiana). Bryan Houston; Clear Marketing Concepts (www.clearmarketingconcepts.com)

TRIVIA ANSWER: In 1966, Pop singer Frank Sinatra tops both the US and UK charts with his single Strangers In The Night. He later scores a Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance plus Record of the Year. The song is from the James Garner movie A Man Could Get Killed. In summer 1966, Strangers In The Night lands at #1 with sales of over a half million copies. Despite these successes, Sinatra despises the song and calls it a piece of **** and the worst ******* song I ever heard.

JAY WEAVER [KCUL-1540/KBUY-1540/KPCN-730] (DFW-Hurst, TX) Subject: Your Quote. GEORGE JONES (September 12, 1931 – April 26, 2013) They placed a wreath upon his door And soon they’ll carry him away He stopped loving her today. Wow, Jim! Brilliant! I would have never thought this line could be the epitaph for George Jones’ life, but you nailed it! Jay Weaver

GEORGE JONES (September 12, 1931 – April 26, 2013) Who’s gonna fill their shoes? Who’s gonna stand that tall? Who’s gonna play the Opry And the Wabash Cannonball? Who’s gonna give their heart and soul To get to me and you? Lord I wonder, who’s gonna fill their shoes?
