Shania Twain Performs Her Biggest Hits At The AMA’s
Nobody saw this AMA performance coming!
Country icon Shania Twain closed out the 2019 American Music Awards in shocking style on Sunday night (November 24), using the night’s last performance to cover rappers, rockers and more. A six-time winner who first took home an AMA trophy more than 20 years ago, Twain was part of a night that celebrated nostalgia multiple times — but she wasn’t content to just trot out her hits.
Starting out seated behind a bedazzled pink guitar and wearing a striking, princess-style pink gown, the country superstar surprised everyone by jumping into an acoustic medley of recent pop favorites. Strumming lightly with no band or pre-recorded track, she tackled Post Malone’s “Rockstar” (even getting censored by ABC for the song’s bad language), Twenty One Pilots’ “Stressed Out,” Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” and Drake’s “God’s Plan.”

The quiet moment felt like a nod of respect to today’s artists, but it led Twain back to her own catalog — and into some fun for the audience. Soon she was playing along to the romantic “Still the One,” before dropping the guitar and pumping up the volume for catwalk-strutting renditions of “Any Man of Mine” and “That Don’t Impress Me Much.” Twain then capped the night with a euphoric run through “Man! I Feel Like a Woman,” with current superstars like Swift and Post Malone singing along and dancing in the crowd.
Twain’s Let’s Go! Las Vegas residency kicks off on December 6 at Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino with more than 20 dates scheduled through June of 2020.
