O’REILLY IS STILL A FACTOR After Fox News fires 67-year-old Bill O’Reilly from his prime time post, he is still a Factor because President Donald Trump offers him a post as Media Advisor. President Trump who knows that O’Reilly’s media savvy is first-rate, places him in position to work closely with Press Secretary Sean Spicer and Information and Propaganda Director Jeff Derpinger to help to improve voters’ perception of the Trump administration.

CC MCCARTNEY [ex KILT-610, KRBE FM, Voice Imaging] (Nashville, TN) It was early in 1974, I was doing early nights at KIMN (950), Denver and we had one of those all glassed incased control rooms. I had a request to play Stairway to Heaven and I was about ready for a nice 6 minute break, when this loud roaring sound started to cover the sounds of my monitors. Just as I looked up, I saw an old Dodge literally in my lobby. This guy ran his car up the outside stairs and thru the plate glass windows and from my control room I was maybe 5 feet from his smoking machine. I jumped up to see if he was alright and he said “ yes **** it, I was trying to kill myself”. After a short pause I told him when John McGuiness, The GM hears about this, he may still get his wish! True story. CC McCartney

CHUCK DUNAWAY [WABC-770, KLIF-1190, KBOX-1480 & KILT-610] (Houston-Katy, TX) Jim; Not to make you envious but…I danced with Ann Margaret in the WKY (930) studios once. Ronnie Kaye was interviewing her and I had just finished taping a kiddie TV show I was doing with Foreman Scotty…i was still in my overalls costume when I walked into the control room and there she was. I was a brassy jerk and grabbed her and (being a good sport) we swayed around the control room a bit. I remember how tiny she was. She was in town with Pat Boone doing a movie about car racing…the movie was set in Dallas, but we had a more photographic race track according to the movie guys. Ronnie loves to tell the story…me too. Chuck (www.chuckdunawaydj.com/)

JIM SHANNON [KULF-790, WIL-1430] (Ellisville-St. Louis, MO) Subject: KOB TV. Read with interest your note on KOB-TV Albuquerque being the first TV station between the Mississippi River and the West Coast. Folks here in St. Louis are proud that KSD-TV went on the air on Feb. 8, 1947, which pre-dates KOB (April 5, 1948) by more than a year. I may be splitting hairs here, but St. Louis in on the western side of the banks of the Mississippi. Did I get you on this one? Jim Shannon
T.J. CALLAHAN [ex KILT FM 1987-2008/Metro Traffic 1985-87/WTAW-KTAW 1982-85] (Houston-Sugar Land, TX) Subject: Birthday wishes. Hi Jim, Thanks for the birthday wishes. You are so sweet to always remember me. Keep up the good work. Love Jim Rose Remembers Radio! Teej
TRIVIA ANSWER: On April 20, 1961 the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approves the GE and Zenith systems of FM stereo broadcasting.
CHARLES GEORGE [ex KCHU FM-KC5RAI] (Dallas, TX) Subject: Future Radio. I don’t think Digital will kill FM. One reason is even in Dallas there, are places Digital Signals do not as well as either FM or AM. Also with Digital persons have, to subscribe, whereas, my radios can be turned on. If anything Kills radio it will be too many stations not developing new Talent, so as to keep it Fresh and not become a bore. Like some persons still blame those no longer around. Like a Patriarch, Gerhard Schuttger, from my church I grew up in passed away. I had mixed feelings, since we often disagreed but I knew he cared a lot for others. I often am more convinced by the actions of others over what they tell me. I am not much on trying to convert those, especially those converted and older than me. I am more of the type that likes stations with: More Music And Less Talk. Though I know it was fun hearing a DJ could talk up to the vocals on the start of a song where there was an instrumental. I think those who have made a career in Broadcasting often think differently than those that have not. I maybe wrong about the future of radio, but not getting rid of the ones I own. Though may not worth anything in the future. Anyway here are some photos of what I like listening to. 73, KC5RAI, Charles George
