BETTY KIRKPATRICK (San Antonio, TX) Jim, What a vast and remarkable life you have lived. Duckie and I went to a party last evening and we spoke of you with fond memories. I remember when we used to go to Sunday gospel singing! I also remember when you ask me to leave the showing of the movie “Midnight Cowboy” because of the subject matter! How the world has changed! You were then and now an exceptional gentleman!

DUCKIE MASSEY [ex KIKK FM/KIKK-650, KITE-930, KXOL-1360, KBUC, KSMG FM, KONO-860] (San Antonio, TX) Subject: Today’s Radio. It was in 1974 or 5 when KIKK was in Pasadena. It was the Jerry and Duckie Show. Jerry just did not have the pow like Garry Galligar who did the afternoons. I worked with him when we were waiting for Jerry to arrive. Garry and I clicked so well, I wish he had been my partner. I believe the PD was a guy by the name of Chris. I forget his last name but he had one arm. A really liked him, a nice guy. Duckie ! Director of Sports Sales Baywood Hotels

TRIVIA ANSWER: On December 7 1921 KWG (now 1230 AM) in Stockton, CA is one of the oldest broadcasting stations in America. KWG’s license issues on December 7, 1921. KWG is believed to be the first commercially licensed radio station west of the Mississippi River. Until 1988, KWG uses a T-antenna type transmitting antenna mounted on two 60-meter tall wooden poles, that makes KWG one of the last broadcast stations to use this type of antenna. The KWG transmitter location is at Weber and E Streets in Stockton for many years.
JAY WALKER [CBS Radio Dallas/KJKK FM/Infinity KTSA-550/KTFM FM/Own Jay Walker Prod/40 Plus Years In Radio] (Ft. Worth-Hurst, TX) One of the best GMs I had the pleasure to work with is Reid Reker. Reid is the rarest of the rare as he came up thru the ranks in programming, first as talent, then PD, national PD for some great groups including Fair West, Cook Inlet, CBS, before switching to sales and finally as a GM. He’s one of the very few I know of that could see the business thru the eyes of a programmer rather than a sales person. As a strategic thinker he knows how to sell, and is one of those who is far more than a gatherer of signatures and checks. Reid is one of the good ones.
MERLE HAGGARD (April 6, 1937 – April 6, 2016) I live the kinda life most men only dream of I make my livin’ writin’ songs and singin’ them But I’m forty-one years old And I ain’t got no place to go when it’s over.
