POPULAR BAYOU CITY RADIO HOST SUCCUMBS We learn from a post in Kevin Charles Minatrea’s social site that local well known radio personality R.C. Rogers passes away. No other information is available. From 02/89 – 03/94 Rogers is Program Director and afternoon DJ on KLDE FM. From 08/95 – 11/01 he is afternoon DJ on KODA FM. Both Houston, TX. Also, KMEO FM & KLZI FM Phoenix, AZ; KJYY FM Houston, TX; KMFY FM Grand Rapids, MN and WRBR FM South Bend, IN. Since 2007, he is an ad voice talent.

ELFEGO BACA LEAVES TOWN One of our all time favorite TV Westerns is a Walt Disney TV series in 1958The Nine Lives of Elfego Baca starring Robert Loggia. The Oscar-Nominated actor’s most notable film credits include An Officer and a Gentleman, Prizzi’s Honor, Independence Day, Lost Highway and Big. Loggia plays Miami drug lord Frank Lopez in Scarface. His widow Audrey confirms that Robert Loggia dies at 85 on December 4, 2015 after he battles Alzheimer’s Disease for the past five years.

HAWKEYE STATE MORNING HOST HAS STROKE IHeartMedia News/Talk WHO-1040 Des Moines, IA AM Drive personality Jan Mickelson off the air after he suffers a stroke on Saturday, November 21, 2015. Jan posts on his social site: We were trying out our new Power Pressure Cooker XL when I started slurring my words and got a bit dizzy. Suzy sat me down, called 911, and Ankeny Paramedics responded immediately. They took me to Mercy Hospital where they confirm I have a stroke. I’m recovering and doing well.

ABC 33 YEAR NEWS PRO RETIRES Radio news ace Doug Limerick begins in radio while still in high school on WOHS-1390 Shelby, NC. His first news mission is as an anchor on WKIX-850 Raleigh, NC. In 1979, Doug moves to WSGN-610 Birmingham; WBT-1110 Charlotte and WHDH-850 Boston. He shifts to Washington on ABC WRQX FM (Mix 107.3). In 1982, Doug begins on ABC News Radio. After a 33-year career with ABC News Doug Limerick retires on December 18, 2015. Cheri Preston is new morning anchor on January 4, 2015.

JACK PARNELL [ex WHBQ- PD/DJ] (Memphis, TN) Subject: “Sinatra & Friends”! Afternoon Jim: Yep…ol’ Wink (ed: Martindale) stays busy. However, I think some of the Sinatra stuff dates way back, so he stays busy digging back! BTW, he’s 82 now. I turned 77 Aug 24. Wink loves to work…he’s been guesting on some tv shows. I think I told you in my last emails that he sends me fully produced programs, and I really like getting them. I’ll dump them over to flashdrive, and stick that into my car or van and listen when I go somewhere, like today to the American Advertising Federation-Memphis Chapter, luncheon. We meet generally in downtown Memphis, I live 23 miles from downtown, so I get to listen going and coming. I use the same ways to listen to some of my productions, so I can hear it in a different environment than my studio. Wink also has a number of programs that get picked up by some of the satellite networks. When you get the actual recordings, give ’em a listen…you’ll love ’em. JP

LESLIE WAYNE HODGES [ex KRCS DJ] (Lake Livingston, TX) Subject: R.C. Rogers, Jim, How do you stay up on all this radio news? I have seen this post twice on Facebook since Saturday 11:30 p.m. Talked with R.C. Rogers as he was getting KLDE going early 1980’s. Office we met in had a lot of boxes on the floor, not what I was expecting to see in a Major market radio station, though maybe I had walked in on move in day, do not know? Seems like I remember R.C. saying “not sure the direction of the station. So not decided on who he was looking for”. My meeting with him seemed like he was not revealing anything to me maybe R.C. thought I was from another radio station intern spy? Basically how I felt, did not seem he was considering me for on air as that was why was talking with R.C. he did not ask me who I am and what is my experience. Leslie – From Kevin Charles Minatrea: “Saddened at the loss of my friend and former program director at Oldies 94.5, R.C. Rogers. He had been fighting cancer for quite some time. Please keep his wife Cindy in your prayers.”

Jim Years ago I learned the value of “OH WOW!!!” songs. Those songs that make you turn it up the volume knob while saying “OH WOW!!!”. Experience has shown me the majority of “OH WOW!!!” songs charted around the 20-50 range on Billboard charts. Usually stuck in that range mostly because of ‘chart blockage’ at the time from a glut of chart-toppers above. Consequently the chart-toppers end up over played while the 20-50 chart tunes faded into the mist. Jay

CHARLES GEORGE [KC5RAI – ex KCHU FM] (Dallas, TX) Subject: Oasis in Dallas. I see that Oasis has moved from KMVK 107.5-2 to KVIL 103.7-2. I like the Smooth Jazz when reading and just wanting to relax. Was surprised when I tuned into KMVK 107.5-2 to find Romantic Mexican Music. Not sure how many have HD Radios in DFW but I like my HD Radio.

BILL DRAKE (January 14, 1937 – November 29, 2008) I don’t think that HD radio is going to draw more people in. It’s the programming that will have to draw people in.
