NASH INVADES NEW ORLEANS NASHsweeps across America as a new name in Country radio. Cumulus NASH expands to more than 60 of its owned-and-operated Country radio stations. The newest Cumulus NASH entry is the former Rock WRKN FM (92.3) which leap frogs above alligators into New Orleans, LA. Rock WRKN FM (92.3) is now Cumulus Country NASH FM 92.3. This means that WRKN FM’s Rock pirates jump the ship. Like the U.S. Army, Mike McVay wants you to apply for WRKN FM’s NASH Country now vacant Program Director post at mike.mcvay@cumulus.com. Mike also would love to hear from Country radio DJs who are in need of a new place to hang their Stetsons.

CHINESE GRAB HOLD OF NY TIMES More and more every day, well to do foreign businesses and businesspersons gain control of American companies. Pretty soon most American trade establishments will outsource overseas which leaves their employees on the dole. Wealthy Chinese tycoon, Chen Guangbiao, who makes his fortune in waste management, mulls a bid to take over the New York Times. Chen wants to purchase the New York Times for $1 billion. Multimillionaire Guangbiao who describes himself as China’s most charismatic philanthropist sighs: the New York Times doesn’t want his cash. Chen says that Arthur Sulzberger Jr., publisher of the Times, sends him a memo that says the Times newspaper is not for sale.

POST STAMP PRICE INCREASE ON ITS WAY Are you happy with your USPS mail delivery? Is your mail carrier like a good neighbor? Unhappy with the price of a postage stamp? Well, Uncle Sam’s snail mail carrier pigeons claim that if we allow them another increase in the price of a postage stamp the service will be better. Hey, I have a bridge to sell you in San Francisco Bay. Can remember not too long ago when the cost of a postage stamp is 3c. Better buy a stash of Forever postage stamps for your letters to your favorite radio personality quick because on January 26, 2014 America’s 1st class postage stamps will leap 3c from 46c to 49c each! This increase is supposed to generate an additional $1.8 billion in revenue to make up for earlier losses.

JAY PENNINGTON (KXEL FM Web site) (Dallas-Flower Mound, TX) Subject: Legendary KEXL jock’s widow needs a kidney. Hi Jim, Happy New Year! Can you pass this along to your readers and listeners. Thank you sir!!!! Jay KEXL Jock Ron Houston’s widow, Sheryl, needs a kidney. Please pass the word. Ron Houston was a key player at legendary KEXL 104.5 San Antonio during the 70’s (see www.kexl.info) Later in life Ron and his wife, Sheryl, moved to Blanco, TX and Ron became a key player in helping the town of Blanco. He was Mayor Pro Tem…even did the voice overs for the Blanco grocery stores as you heard his golden voice as you walked up and down the isles. 🙂 Ron passed away in 2009 but his wife Sheryl still lives in Blanco. Sheryl, currently needs a kidney transplant and right now there is no donor. Sam Kindrick told me about this and we both want to help get the word out.  Can you help Ron’s wife by either donating a kidney or telling others. Thanks! TONY WILLIAMS [ex WKY-930/KRLD-1080/Metro Traffic] (Dallas-Richardson, TX) Subject: Christmas music. McDonald’s near me started playing Christmas music on Nov. 1, but Ronald McDonald has yet to put up the Christmas tree. Remember that man that died in a jail cell in Dallas? His father says he viewed a video of his son yelling for help, but he claims no one responded. If that is true, you were right. No one cared. He did not even get a call to anyone. His phone was out of juice. 50 Blockbuster Stores to Remain Open. http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052702304448204579185702090813172
TRIVIA ANSWER: In the late 1980s, while he walks through the streets of Manhattan, a man approaches CBS TV News anchor Dan Rather and he shouts What’s the frequency, Kenneth? at him. It remains a mystery for the reason of the man’s bizarre behavior toward Dan Rather. But this freakish experience encourages Alternative Rock group R.E.M. to write a song with the same name in their 1994 album Monster, but, for some unknown reason, they choose to not include Dan Rather’s name in its lyrics. It peaks at #21 in Billboard’s Hot 100, #9 on UK Singles Chart, plus is the first song to debut at #1 in Billboard Modern Rock Tracks.
