WINK MARTINDALE [Legendary TV game show host] (Los Angeles-Calabasas, CA) Subject: Keynote Speech To Veterans.doc. Just thought you might like to read my speech to 700 veterans today in La Habra, CA. God Bless Our Great Country. Wink – Keynote Speech To Veterans La Habra, CA 11AM 11/11/13. By the looks on your faces you expected Alex Trebek or Pat Sajak, right? No way. They get paid by the word. I just speak to hear your applause. (Hint, Hint). When James Gomez called me several months ago about being your keynote speaker this morning he said, “Wink you’re a good American, right”? I said “Absolutely”! He said “You believe in free speech, right”? I said “Absolutely”! He said “Good! You’re making one to the Veterans in La Habra Veteran’s Day!! So, here I am! (And honored to be here I might add).

PAT MCGOWAN [Engineer-In-Charge NCP SS-4 New Century Productions] (Chandler, AZ) Subject: KUHF. Jim, Read with interest your mention of $$$ troubles at The University of Houston radio stations. Back in the day (’67-’70) I spent MANY UNPAID happy hours at the little closet we called home. So did others. Milt Dooley, Lyn Salerno, Rob McCain, Robb Ritchey and many more that had long successful broadcast careers among names that come to mind. These are non-commercial (ha) stations that should be staffed and run by NON-PAID students learning the craft, except for a GM and a CE. We had a budget of virtually nothing and a good radio station (then 91.3 KUHF). Paid staff layoffs. So what! Put the stations back in student hands where they belong! Paid staff? That’s called a real job with a real commercial radio station. Just my two cents worth. Best to you and Lacy. Pat McGowan; EIC NEP US Mobile Units

JAY WEAVER [KLBK-1360/Lubbock, TX; KBUY-1540/Fort Worth, TX; KPCN-730; Grand Prairie, TX] (DFW-Hurst, TX) Subject: BOB SCHIEFFER Jim, I guess I don’t get it! I have watched Bob Schieffer for years, and before I watched, I listened when he was a newscaster on KXOL, here in Fort Worth. Maybe it’s his voice, I really don’t know. I just have not ever been able to find his journalism abilities to be that great and I have thought for several years the only reason he has gone as far as he has in television journalism is because he is the “last man standing’ at CBS. I guess if you have to name your school of journalism after someone, Bob Schieffer is the choice, but surely there were others who have graduated from the Texas Christian University School Of Journalism that are real journalists. Thank you for all you do, Jim. By the way, “Hello!” to Lacy from my 11 year old Chihuahua. His name is Jefferson.
TRIVIA ANSWER: In 1942, Douglas Edwards joins CBS Radio to anchor The World Today evening newscast also World News Today on Sunday afternoons. Douglas is America’s first television network news anchor on CBS TV’s first nightly newscast 7:30-7:45 pm from 1948–1962. Originally it has no sponsor but later Oldsmobile picks it up. Later,  CBS Television News becomes CBS Evening News.
CHARLES GEORGE [ex KCHU FM] (Dallas, TX) My mother turned 83 on November 8. I was getting a lot of Spam because of Facebook, so dropped every one that I had listed as friends. I am slowly rebuilding but making sure I know them well before doing so. I like Facebook for some things. Another area talent is Lala Johnson, she does Jazz and R&B. She has a few videos on Youtube. Anyway, before I forget Happy Birthday a bit early.
WALT DISNEY (December 5, 1901 to December 15, 1966) If you can dream it, you can do it.
