On January 2, 2013 Gore sells Current TV to Qatar-based Al Jazeera who plans to shut it down with a new New York-based channel called Al Jazeera America. Surprise! Surprise! RUSH IS IN HANNITY IS OUT Rush Limbaugh, who celebrates 25 years on the air is America’s #1 radio Talk host, tells us not to worry. El Rushbo remains on Cumulus radio stations. According to Radio Ink, when Premiere Radio Networks agrees to unbundle Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, this leaves Sean out in the cold to fend for himself. When Cumulus CEO Lew Dickey claims that the talk format does not bring in the big bucks that he thinks it should, he pastes a code red sticker on it. America’s #2 Talk host Sean Hannity’s fee may be too high. So, the Cumulus 2014 lineup places Michael Savage in Sean’s seat. As we report in Monday’s issue of JRRR, America’s #1 Talk host Rush Limbaugh will leap through the hoops from WABC-770 to Clear Channel WOR-710 in America’s #1 radio market, NYC.
SEAN HANNITY’S NEXT MOVE In August 2012 Clear Channel buys WOR-710 which is New York City’s oldest radio station and one of its last independents to survive. CC already owns five FM music radio stations in NYC. Clear Channel’s purchase of WOR-710 might provide a Gothom City home for talk programs which it owns through its Premiere syndication. At the end of 2013 Rush Limbaugh leapfrogs from WABC-770 to WOR-710. Will Sean Hannity replace WOR-710 morning host John Gambling whose family is on NYC radio since 1925? When Hannity’s contract terminates at the end of 2013, Michael Savage is his replacement on Cumulus radio. Will Sean Hannity flip from WABC-770 to WOR-710 in The Big Apple at the end of 2013? Only the Shadow knows. Stay tuned to this Batchannel.
FOX NEWS CHANNEL LOOSENS ITS ROOTS America’s #1 TV talk host, Fox News Channel’s Bill O-Reilly, continues to hit his stride with a new contract. The network’s #2 talk host, Sean Hannity, doesn’t fare as well at the Fox studios in New York. Although Fox News signs long-term pacts with Megyn Kelly, Bret Baier, Shepard Smith, Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity and Greta Van Susteren where are they going to place Sean Hannity? Don’t mess with success. When Fox TV’s popular daytime TV host, Megyn Kelly, moves to the 9 pm spot on Fox News, where does that leave Sean Hannity and Greta Van Susteren? Observers believe that Kelly will bump Greta Van Susteren off Fox TV because her show has the lowest-ratings. But Greta growls that she ain’t going no where. Don’t touch this Bat channel.

DAN LOVETT [ex WABC TV & KTRK TV sports anchor] (Houston, TX) Jim Thanx so much for the email about Ellis. We lived in the same apartment building in NYC when we both worked at WABC-TV back in the late 70s… I have emailed him. Thanx again Dan

MIKE BRAUN [ex KWTX-1230 Waco, TX] (Ft. Worth, TX) Subject: KWTX anniversary and Buddy Bostick birthday. Jim, An application for KWTX was made in May 1941, but the start of World War II imposed equipment and construction restrictions, delaying the station’s approval and completion for five years. KWTX radio’s inaugural broadcast was May 1, 1946, at “1-2-3 on your dial” (1230 kc) from its original second-floor studio at 108-1/2 South 6th Street in downtown Waco. The station was a Mutual affiliate and aired a mix of local and network music, news, sports and drama. The station moved to a new facility at 4520 Bosque Blvd. in Waco around 1952. This building would become known as Broadcast Center, and after the building was expanded, it shared space with KWTX-TV (Channel 10) in 1955 and KWTX-FM (97.5) in 1970. The South 6th building is still occupied by other tenants, although the second floor, where the KWTX offices, studio and control room were located, has completely changed. Best wishes, Mike Braun, KWTX-AM/FM, 1975-1979
WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT TODAY’S RADIO? WHERE IS RADIO HEADED? We want to know what is on your mind. Let’s start a radio revolution.  Give us your opinion about today’s radio or whatever is on your mind at Rosekkkj@earthlink.net.
JOHN HALE (Austin-Cedar Park, TX) Jim, I get a kick out of watching my Scottie have dreams while he’s sleeping. I think he’s dreaming about chasing cats and squirrels, and he kinda barks in his sleep, rather than talking in his sleep, when he’s having a dream. Reference your question about doing traffic, I’m working the late shift weekends for Total Traffic, the traffic branch of Clear Channel. I provide reports on DFW traffic for Sirius satellite radio, and Houston traffic for News 92 F-M (KROI) overnight Saturday and Sunday nights. It’s just enough work for me, since I’m a retired guy, and I enjoy doing traffic because it’s one of the last things left in broadcasting these days where you can use some personality and individuality. Give Lacy a big hug for me, and we’ll talk again soon my friend. John Hale; McKinney, Texas (Retired, but not acting like it!)
TRIVIA ANSWER: TV pioneer Sylvester [Pat] Weaver as NBC’s program manager creates the Tonight Show. Weaver, who is father of actress Sigorney Weaver, is the innovator of the Spectacular which gives  NBC’s owner RCA the advantage to increase the sale of TV sets. Participation advertising with multiple sponsors, also gives more control of the shows to the network. Sylvester [Pat] Weaver passes away on March 15, 2002.
DUKE GILLELAND (Belton TX) Subject: Comment On “New” Country Article… Jim, Your note on Less Classics More New Country should have read Less Classics For NO Country! Thank God there are still a few stations that have the guts to remember those who built the roads that nashville music travels on today! Duke Gilleland; Belton Texas
KEN OLSON [President/Chairman/founder of Digital Equipment Corp. 1977] There is no reason anyone would want a computer in their home.
