Today’s Inspiration Station With Rhonnie Scheuerman

We had scarcely become acquainted with a couple in our congregation when their only son Barry was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor.  Within two weeks, this young man with the physique  of a top athlete was in a hospital for the terminally ill.

At the time, our little church was without a pastor, but my husband Leo had made himself available as a lay minister in case of emergencies .  When the phone rang one evening and Barry’s mother introduced herself, I could sense the anguish in her voice even before she explained the situation “Would your husband please come?’ Feeling inadequate, Leo never the less drove to the hospital that evening and continued to visit for the next several weeks.

One evening I decided to accompany Leo Barry’s mother spied meat  at the end of the long corridor and came hurrying to greet me, her arms enfolding me in a welcome hug.  “Oh she said, “you’ve got; no idea what your presence means!” I had worried about what words of consolation I could  bring, so I merely sat with her, “with no one speaking a word,”for I saw that her pain was very great”.

Lord make  me not underestimate  the importance of merely being there – Alma
