ST LOUIS RADIO GROUNDS AIRBORNE TRAFFIC For years, KTRS-550 and KMOX-1120 Airborne traffic updates fly together above busy roads during morning and evening rushes. Friday, March 31, 2017 is the last time that KTRS-550’s Tim Wilund and KMOX-1120’s Rodger Brand send Airborne traffic reports. This is due to the high cost of flying, plus the availability of technology on the ground. McGraw Milhaven, PD and KTRS-550 morning host says: Because of technology, you don’t need to do traffic from the air anymore.

JEFF THOMPSON [ex NBC NEWS, 30 Rockefeller Plaza-KXYZ-1320, KMSC FM, KVVV TV CH 16] (Winston-Salem, NC) Subject: Wishes for a full recovery for my old colleague, UT Classmate & Friend Tom Ellis. We went to the University of Texas in the late 1950s’, where we both studied Journalism, Radio & TV, etc. While in college, Tom & I both also worked in the local Austin, Texas media. Of course, he went back up to Boston and became a major name in the media…where my current wife of 16 years was a local viewer. Tom & I got back together only once briefly, when he came to NYC where I was working at NBC Network News…and he was considering joining ABC’s “Good Morning America…” But he didn’t take the job. and went back home to Boston. I certainly wish Tom a speedy and full recovery. – Jeff Thompson (www.ThompsonCommunication.com)

WINK MARTINDALE [Host of over 20 TV game shows Tic Tac Dough 1978-85, Gambit 1972-76 (again 1980-81) and Debt 1996-98 – DJ WHBQ-560/KHJ-930/KMPC-1540] (Los Angeles-Calabasas, CA) Hi Jim! Always good to come HOME to Tennessee! I was born and raised in Jackson…just 120 miles from Nashville. As for Elvis…and the reason my wife Sandy and I are here, we’ve seen 14 excellent tribute artists. Judging this contest to determine a winner is going to be tough. They’re all that good. Best blessings, Wink P.S. Always enjoy reading your columns.

JIM STANFORD [Broadcast Engineering consultant April 1978–p] (Waco, TX) Hi Good to know you. I am about ten years younger but just as avid about radio. I have built many stations, mostly AM from the ground up including some complex directionals. I still consult many hi-power AM’s in large markets for rf-related topics. My wife and I are full time rv’ers and presently parked at our kid’s place just outside Houston. Jim Stanford
JOHNNY CARSON (October 23, 1925 – January 23, 2005) If it weren’t for Philo T. Farnsworth, inventor of television, we’d still be eating frozen radio dinners.
