EMAILS YES WE HAVE EMAIL JACK PARNELL [ex PD/DJ WHBQ-560] (Memphis, TN) Subject: Roy Mack. Thanks Jim…I always enjoy your articles too. Strangely, he died on Saturday the 25th, and none of us knew about it for nearly a week. About 3 years ago I called to ask if he could come to one of our WHBQ Radio & TV get together…his wife answered and said his health was bad and he had gone to the doctor at that point. When I finally got on the internet after hearing that he had passed, I found out that his wife Sandy had died just after I talked with her about the gathering. You’re right; the older we get the faster our friends go. JP

MIKE CANNON [KSBJ FM, ex KENR-1070, KILT-610, KIKR-1450 and KPRC-950] (Houston-Cleveland, TX)Howdy Jim. It’s been a while since I checked in with you so I thought I’d say hello. I hope you’re doing well. I’m still cranking out Telephone On-Hold Messages and doing Voice-Overs through my company Studio Productions and staying busy chasing the grandkids (and Granny) around. I’m also back on the air! I was approached by KSBJ late last year about doing some part-time work for them and am doing Saturday afternoons Noon-6 and filling in when there is a need. It’s great to be back with my first love even through the old dog had to learn some new tricks…WHERE ARE THE TURNTABLES AND CARTS??? It is great to be back on the air and wonderful to have such a ministry opportunity given to me. I joked with the PD when he asked me if I had an aircheck. I said “yes, but you don’t have anything that’ll play it!” The last time I jocked was 1989, but it’s like riding a bicycle in many respects. I began my career doing weekends as the youngest DJ on the air in Houston and I guess I’ll check out as the oldest! but, like we’ve always said…it’s way better than a real job. KAREN [DUCKIE] MASSEY (ex morning host on KXOL-1360, KBUC FM) (San Antonio, TX) Subject: Society of San Antonio Radio Broadcasters. Jim: Greeting from San Antonio. After all these years I finally went to the Society of San Antonio Radio Broadcasters luncheon/meeting. I was in awe of all the Radio Royalty that was at that meeting, not to mention the ones that did not turn up. I saw the name tags on the table. Spoke to Jerry King (KKYX Radio) at the meeting, who happened to mention that the only time we really all get together is at funerals. Wow what a thought. Well, before it’s my turn (I wonder if anyone will turn up) I am actively going to seek another radio gig, preferably country. Hay! English people love country music as well, you know. Anyway my dear, hope all is well and have a great week. By the way, have some old pictures of you when we went to Uvalde for Johnny Rodriguez home coming. Duckie!
