DAVE MICHAELS [former WSAI-1360/KONO-860/KBUC FM] (Dayton-Huber Heights, OH) Subject: JIM – radio is in my Blood YES – Oct 28th is my Birthday – Scorpio On the Gas – I am driving with a guy who owns an SUV; we will split the gas prices and the driving. You are correct about the Mileage! Maybe some FREE parts out of this trip. I have not been in Michigan for many years. Detroit is very depressed (City); LIBERALs ruined once the 5th Largest City in the USA. Car Making Capital. I like the Cities around the Great Lakes…aka Cleveland, Ohio. If I see an old Mic – I will grab it for my Buddy Jim. What would be neat is a – Photo of an Old metal Typewriter & A Mic next to each other at the top of your Stationary. I know you use a PC keyboard to type NOW – but back when – I am sure JIM used many real Typewriters to compose his Words. CORRECT? Dave

JAY WEAVER (KLBK–1340, KBUY-1540, KPCN-730) (DFW-Hurst, TX) Subject: Jim Rose Remembers Radio March 25, 2016 [Friday] Issue #1497. Jim I laughed with joy to see Dave Michaels mention of working at KBUC-FM and the comments about the White Castle Sliders and the “only person (who) ever came into my studio while on the air was Gene Kelly, etc.” It brought back many memories for me of working with Gene Kelly at KBUY in Fort Worth and might for you too, as I think you may have worked with him, also. We remember Gene was a heavy set person and did enjoy the food and the drink. I closed my eyes and could see him “downing” one of those sliders in almost one felled swoop! Gene was one of my early radio heroes! He was good at radio and he was entertaining! He was one of a kind! Loved that guy and had the of pleasure of working with him and occasionally visiting on phone with him over the years! It’s people like him that I miss. I also visited with his son Jay (on line), after Gene’s death. He loved his Dad!!

TRIVIA ANSWER: On March 20, 1922 founded by Gimbels department store, WIP-610 Philadelphia, PA goes on-the-air. WIP-610 first goes on the air as Philadelphia’s first commercial radio station with call sign WIP, which radio fans mistakenly think stand for Wireless In Philadelphia, We’re In Philadelphia or Watch Its Progress. In fact, WIP is a call sign that the FCC randomly selects.
