George Jones tops UKCountryRadio.com’s Greatest Hits
The top 30 country songs of all time
Over Christmas and the New Year, we revealed UKCountryRadio.com’s Greatest Hits – the top 30 country songs of all time as chosen by you. Thank you to everyone who has sent in their all-time favourite three country songs over the last few months, allowing us to compile the chart.
It was obvious from the early days that the George Jones track “He Stopped Loving Her Today” was running away with the lead and, indeed, this classic song topped the chart. It is a fitting tribute to Jones, coming at the end of the year in which he passed away.
“Crazy” by Patsy Cline, written by Willie Nelson, was number two in the list, followed by Johnny Cash’s biggest hit “Ring Of Fire” at number three.
Nelson’s CMA Single of the Year 1982 “Always On My Mind” came in at number four, with regular visitor to the UK Gene Watson featured at number five with “Farewell Party”.
Rounding out the top ten were Crazy Arms by Ray Price at 6, Sunday Morning Coming Down by Kris Kristofferson at 7, Help Me Make It Through The Night, also by Kristofferson, at 8, Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You” at 9, and Don Williams’ “You’re My Best Friend” at number 10.
