Dennis Quaid On Addiction and What Saved Him

Dennis Quaid’s Confession, How His Faith Helped Him Overcome Addiction

Dennis Quaid claims he’s now “happiest I’ve ever been,” but he’s had a long struggle to get there. In the 1980s, as he established himself as a movie star in films such as The Right Stuff, Suspect, The Big Easy, and D.O.A., the actor and musician admitted to battling addiction. Upon realizing his future, he entered rehab in 1990 – what he calls “cocaine school.” It is his belief that addicts are trying to fill a gap in themselves, adding that when they have gotten rid of their addiction, they need something else to fill that gap. After rehab, Quaid started returning to his Christian roots. “I’m grateful I’m still alive, I’m thankful to be alive every single day,” he says. It is crucial to enjoy your life to the fullest, since it will be full of challenges and stuff to knock it down.
