There will never be another gambler like Kenny Rogers<\/strong><\/h2>\n

On April 9, stars came together virtually to honor the legendary Kenny Rogers, who passed away on March 20 at the age of 81. Hosted by actress-singer Rita Wilson, CMT GIANTS Kenny Rogers: A Benefit For MusiCares<\/em>\u00a0featured performances by\u00a0Dolly Parton,\u00a0Vince Gill,\u00a0Lady Antebellum,\u00a0Rascal Flatts and more.\u00a0Other artists who performed on the show included\u00a0Randy Houser,\u00a0Jennifer Nettles,\u00a0Jason Isbell, Michael McDonald, and Gavin DeGraw.<\/p>\n

Here are Top Five Highlights from the show:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

1) Surrounded by candles,\u00a0<\/strong>Dolly Parton<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0tugged on viewers\u2019 heartstrings, as she acoustically performed Rogers\u2019 lesser known tune, \u201cSweet Music Man.\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Parton, a longtime friend of Rogers, gave the introduction, \u201cMy favorite Kenny song is one that most people don\u2019t realize that Kenny wrote. It was not as big a hit as most of his [songs], but it\u2019s a song that I love to sing. I sit around sometimes and sing it on my own.\u201d<\/p>\n

2)\u00a0Vince Gill\u00a0chose to perform a song he co-wrote with Leslie Satcher and Al Anderson, which Rogers had previously cut.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Titled \u201cRock Of Your Love,\u201d Gill\u2019s pristine vocals shined on the song\u2019s poignant lyrics, \u201cSomething steady sure feels good \/ I always knew somehow it would \/ I\u2019ve traded chains for the wings of a dove \/ Standin\u2019 on the rock of your love<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

3) Country group\u00a0Rascal Flatts\u00a0came together for the Rogers\u2019 classic, \u201cThrough The Years.\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Flatts\u2019 lead singer Gary LeVox explained their song choice, by saying, \u201cHe [Rogers] was such an amazing storyteller \u2026 [The song] is probably the most perfect love song that\u2019s ever been written. That was one that really just told the truth.\u201d The trio then flawlessly collaborated together in a virtual performance of the feel-good\u00a0track.<\/p>\n

4)\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Lady Antebellum\u00a0took on the famous Dolly and Kenny duet, \u201cIslands In The Stream.\u201d Prior to their performance,\u00a0Hillary Scott\u00a0of the country trio discussed the generous reputation Rogers had.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Scott stated, \u201cI have heard so many stories from people like my mom [Linda Davis] and other artists who have said over and over again of when they toured with Kenny, he allowed them to use pretty much every single square inch of his stage.\u201d She continued, \u201cThat generosity is one of my favorite things about him. We felt that directly whenever we opened up for Kenny.\u201d<\/p>\n

5) Pop singer\u00a0Lionel<\/a> Richie gave the ultimate farewell, as he spoke of his close friendship with Rogers. (Sorry No Video Available)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Richie, who wrote Rogers\u2019 massive hit, \u201cLady,\u201d gave the story behind one of the last tunes Rogers recorded. Written by Richie, the aptly titled song \u201cGoodbye\u201d was cut by Rogers over 10 years ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I wrote a song called \u2018Hello,\u2019 I thought, \u2018well, there should be a song called \u2018Goodbye\u2019 somewhere in all of this,\u201d Richie simply stated. \u201cSo, when I found myself losing a lot of my friends, I thought I would record a song called \u2018Goodbye.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

The show ended with Rogers singing the tune, as video clips and photos of the singer played in the background.<\/p>\n

The special will re-air on MTV Live on April 10 at 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. CST. CMT will also re-air the program on April 11 at 11:00 a.m. CST and on CMT Music on April 12 at 7:00 p.m. CST.<\/p>\n
