If this does not improve we will have to incorporate the handful of Independent bluegrass artists into the Traditional Country weekly Top 20 Charts, which sadly means that Bluegrass music will lose its Independent identity on AirplayExpress. <\/span>Therefore we appeal to all Independent Bluegrass artists to consider sending us one of their songs for radio promotion. Bluegrass<\/b>\u00a0music is a genre of American roots music that developed in the 1940s in the United States\u00a0Appalachian\u00a0region. The genre derives its name from the band\u00a0Bill Monroe and the Blue Grass Boys. Bluegrass has roots in traditional English, Scottish and Irish ballads and dance tunes, and in traditional African-American blues and jazz. Bluegrass was further developed by musicians who played with Monroe, including 5-string banjo player\u00a0Earl Scruggs\u00a0and guitarist\u00a0Lester Flatt. Monroe characterized the genre as: “Scottish\u00a0bagpipes\u00a0and ole-time fiddlin’. It’s\u00a0Methodist\u00a0and\u00a0Holiness\u00a0and\u00a0Baptist. It’s\u00a0blues\u00a0and\u00a0jazz, and it has a high lonesome sound.”<\/p>\n

Bluegrass features acoustic string instruments and emphasizes the\u00a0off-beat. Notes are anticipated, in contrast to laid back blues where notes are behind the beat, which creates the higher energy characteristic of bluegrass. Another subgenre,\u00a0bluegrass gospel, uses\u00a0Christian\u00a0lyrics, soulful three- or four-part\u00a0harmony\u00a0singing, and sometimes the playing of\u00a0instrumentals. A newer development in the bluegrass world is Neo-traditional bluegrass; exemplified by bands such as\u00a0The Grascals\u00a0and\u00a0Mountain Heart; bands from this subgenre typically have more than one lead singer. Bluegrass music has attracted a diverse following worldwide.<\/p>\n
