During Sunday night\u2019s Country Music Hall of Fame\u00a0Medallion Ceremony,\u00a0Alan Jackson\u00a0received his medal and became an official Hall of Famer. And during the festivities, Jackson opened up about how people have interpreted his quiet side over the years.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"So when he was a car salesman, he said, he was a good one. \u201cI was a good car salesman. And I\u2019m not really shy, I\u2019m just kind of socially awkward,\u201d Jackson told the crowd, \u201cand mainly I just don\u2019t like to talk much. As a car salesman, I was good because I knew cars and I knew what people needed, so I helped them.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0Country Aircheck<\/em>, when it came to songwriting, Jackson said he\u2019d always maintained the write-what-you-know style of crafting songs.<\/p>\n

\"\"\u201cI wrote what I knew. My daddy was a mechanic, I grew up in a garage and that\u2019s all I cared about. That\u2019s the reason I moved to Nashville to become a singer. I loved cars, and I couldn\u2019t really buy any.<\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t see much of a future of being able to buy a lot of cars and being a singing star looked like the only shot I had,\u201d he shared.<\/p>\n

What kept Jackson on his straight-up country path was some advice George Jones had given him in the early days. \u201cHe told me the first time I met him: \u2018Keep it country.\u2019 I would have done that anyway, but it meant so much coming from him.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just hope there are going to be some young people coming along who really care about it as much as I have and try to keep it alive. It\u2019s going to be hard today. You won\u2019t hear it on the radio anymore, but there\u2019s still a lot of people out there, young and old, who want to hear what I call real country music.\u201d<\/p>\n
