BEING ALIVE IS WORTH THE HASSLE.<\/strong><\/h3>\n

For some people the world changes so slowly they hardly notice it.\u00a0<\/strong>
\nThings happen on a small familiar set, like a stage play.\u00a0<\/strong>
\nFor others of us,\u00a0<\/strong>
\nour horizons have grown so far apart it’s hard to get our bearings.\u00a0<\/strong>
\nIf I ever do get back to my old neighborhood\u00a0<\/strong>
\nI’m sure I’ll run into a guy I used to know\u00a0<\/strong>
\nfor whom nothing much has changed.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Reality is fluid. The scenery of life changes constantly.\u00a0<\/strong>
\nThere is only one thing we can depend on,\u00a0<\/strong>
\nand that’s the thing we fear most: Change.\u00a0<\/strong>
\nRelationships change, that’s for sure.\u00a0<\/strong>
\nIf we’re lucky they change into something better…\u00a0<\/strong>
\ndifferent, but better.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Misty is my full time family.<\/strong>
\nAfter all these years we still have lots to talk about,<\/strong>
\nand we make each other laugh..<\/strong>
\nOur occasional arguments last only minutes.<\/strong><\/p>\n

When I was a kid, somebody put up strange billboards.\u00a0<\/strong>
\nThe first said “IT’S COMING!”,\u00a0<\/strong>
\nthe next said, “WATCH FOR IT!”, then “IT’S ALMOST HERE!”,\u00a0<\/strong>
\nand the last one said “IT’S GONE!”\u00a0<\/strong>
\nChristmas is a little like that.<\/strong><\/p>\n

We were in a bad hurricane in Miami in the 60’s<\/strong>
\nThe metal posts holding our carport were banging up and down<\/strong>
\nin the 135 mph wind.\u00a0<\/strong>
\nA guy on the radio yelled “Holy crap! The back door just blew off!”\u00a0<\/strong>
\nI said, “Isn’t he supposed to cheer US up?”<\/strong><\/p>\n

I was sitting by the window listening to the sound of emptiness.\u00a0<\/strong>
\nThis is not like listening to no sound at all,\u00a0<\/strong>
\nbecause the sound of emptiness contains\u00a0<\/strong>
\nall the things you hoped would be in it,\u00a0<\/strong>
\nand all the sounds that once were.<\/strong><\/p>\n

ROGER MILLER. Roger Miller walked in on our session at Columbia.\u00a0<\/strong>
\nI stopped everything and went to meet him.\u00a0<\/strong>
\nI put my hand out and was going to say “I’m a fan of yours.”\u00a0<\/strong>
\nBefore I could, he said “I’m a fan of yours.”\u00a0<\/strong>
\nA high spot of my life.<\/strong><\/p>\n

RAY STEVENS. I was turned down by Ray Stevens at Monument Records\u00a0<\/strong>
\nwhen I first went to Nashville.\u00a0<\/strong>
\nIt was OK because I didn’t know who he was.\u00a0<\/strong>
\nYears later, on the road, we became friendly.\u00a0<\/strong>
\nStill later, he started a standing ovation for us at the ASCAP awards.<\/strong><\/p>\n

You should see the tangled web of wires under my computer desk.<\/strong>
\nI went down there to plug something in and I’m never going back.<\/strong>
\nI think there’s something living in it.<\/strong><\/p>\n

My grammar school was pretty strict,\u00a0<\/strong>
\nbut they gave us education on par with today’s colleges.\u00a0<\/strong>
\nIn seventh and eighth grades all us boys had to wear ties.\u00a0<\/strong>
\nThe result was grotesque but funny.\u00a0<\/strong>
\nThe most popular style was this:\u00a0<\/strong>
\nA blue flannel checkered lumberjack shirt\u00a0<\/strong>
\nand a bright red rayon clip-on tie with a picture of Popeye on it.<\/strong><\/p>\n

God made me a musician.<\/strong>
\nWhen I was a teenager He looked down and said,<\/strong>
\n“Looks like you need some help getting girls.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

I’m writing a jazz song on the catatonic scale.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I’m getting a backache from walking upright.<\/strong>
\nEvolution is killing me.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you sign up for the Platinum health care plan,\u00a0<\/strong>
\nyou get to drive the ambulance.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I recently returned to Buffalo, my home town.<\/strong>
\nIt’s nicer than I left it.<\/strong>
\nLike somebody cleaned up after me.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The sinking of the Titanic must have been a miracle\u00a0<\/strong>
\nto the lobsters in the kitchen.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Make the days a little longer.<\/strong>
\nI don’t know where the time has flown.<\/strong>
\nLord, I’m having such a good time,<\/strong>
\nI don’t want to go home.<\/strong><\/p>\n
