The FIRST one arrived\u00a0a mystery package was waiting for me when I came home from my friend\u2019s holiday\u00a0 party. I\u2019d had to excuse myself early.\u00a0 Everything from the decorations to the happy ladies at my table reminded me of my husband.\u00a0exactly 12 days before Christmas. A plain white paper bag right outside my front door.<\/p>\n

The mystery package was waiting \u00a0for me when I came home from my friend\u2019s holiday tea party. I\u2019d to excuse myself early. Every\u00a0 thing from the decorations to the happy ladies at my table reminded me of my husband, Tom who\u2019 passed away that summer.\u00a0 I\u2019d hope getting out of the house would take\u00a0my mind off him.\u00a0 Instead II was overcome with memories of our 54th year marriage.\u00a0 Tom had been my childhood sweetheart, the boy next door. We\u2019d built a happy life together.\u00a0 And he loved Christmas more than anything.\u00a0 We anticipated it\u2019s arrival its arrival each year like two kinds.<\/p>\n

I\u2019d left the party in tears.\u00a0 But not before I asked another widow if the holidays would ever get any easier.\u00a0 \u201cNot really,\u201d she said.\u00a0 \u201cYou will just learn to celebrate differently. I thought \u00a0she means celebrate alone. I was still thinking about that when I got back home.\u00a0 Then I saw the bag sitting there.the leaves\u00a0 of a white\u00a0poinsettia\u00a0\u00a0plant sticking out.\u00a0 I carried it into the house and read the typed note .\u00a0 \u201cOn the first day of Christmas your true friend gave to you: A poinsettia plant\u00a0\u00a0just for you!\u201d. no signature.<\/p>\n

I set the flowers on my kitchen table, the only Christmas touch around.\u00a0\u00a0 Someone was mighty thoughtful.<\/p>\n

The next morning I opened my front door to get the newspaper.\u00a0 There , on the bench by the door, was another plastic bag.\u00a0 Another poinsettia! I thought ..\u00a0 But no this bag container two bags of candy- turlle\u00a0 clusters to be exact- with a note: \u201cOn the second day of Christmas, your true friends give to yo: Two turtle clusters, and a\u00a0poinsettia just for you<\/p>\n

Now I had to laugh. Could my secret gift-giver be one of my sons, orchestrating this from afar ?<\/strong><\/p>\n
