size-full wp-image-60703\" src=\"https:\/\/whisnews21.files.wordpress.com\/2016\/10\/jesus038.jpg\" alt=\"jesus038\" width=\"750\" height=\"180\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Author Andres Attaway:\u00a0Last Sunday was one of those Sundays what going to church seems more of a burden than a privilege.\u00a0 We sang only a couple of verses of the hymns I liked, while the ones I didn&#8217;t like seemed endless.\u00a0 I hadn&#8217;t remembered to pick up a service book, so I had to strain to hear the lessons, unable to follow along with the text.\u00a0 I struggled \u00a0to get the gist of the sermon, and the bits I could pick up on only increased my confusion.<\/p>\n<p>The problem, of course, wasn&#8217;t with the singers or the reader or preacher, the problem was with me.\u00a0 Over the past few months I&#8217;ve been stressed at work and troubles at home.\u00a0 I&#8217;d become withdrawn \u00a0hiding from my problems.\u00a0 And in the process I have been hiding by God.<\/p>\n<p>In the afternoon I walked Maggie and Stephen to play rehearsal and then headed north to the very tip on Manhattan.\u00a0 I sat on a bench in the park, drinking \u00a0a cup of coffee \u00a0and looking out over the salt marsh, with a wooded hill on my left, and beyond it, the Palisades.\u00a0 For some reason , of poetry started floating through my mind.\u00a0 And I thought back, for the first time in quite a while, to a long-ago evening in a college dorm, where my friend Kevin and I read the whole of Revelation\u00a0 out loud, and through the mysterious images and in the rhythm \u00a0of the King James text, my heart was touched by a Presence I&#8217;d never felt before.\u00a0I took a sip of coffee \u00a0and watched \u00a0the birds wading in the marsh. \u00a0 And for the first time in quite a while, I started to pray:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><strong>Lord blow with Your Spirit on the embers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><strong>You lighted so many years ago
