Another recording, by Doris Day, was made on January 13, 1950 and released by Columbia Records as catalog number 38709. Tommy Dorsey and his orchestra made a recording on February 2, 1949 which was released by RCA Victor Records as catalog number 20-3375. In 1963 Prince Buster recorded a Ska version which was released by Blue Beat records as a B-Side.’

TRIVIA ANSWER: In November 1961, California Rock band The Pendletones record Surfin’ on Hite Morgan’s Candix Records. After Candix presses the records someone discovers that a young promotions worker, Russ Regan, changes the The Pendletones’ name to The Beach Boys to tie the group in with other surf bands. This huge mistake enrages Brian Wilson and Mike Love who write Surfin’. But with a limited budget, Candix cannot reprint the record’s labels. So, the The Beach Boys’ name remains.
