As we saw yesterday, words are but a small part of parental communication. Now let’s look at two types of messages we should purposefully model for our kids.<\/span><\/div>\n
First, boys and girls need affirmation that they are loved, accepted, and competent. In today’s passage, God the Father spoke those very things to His Son. It is essential that our children gain a sense of security and belonging at home so they won’t seek acceptance elsewhere. And the way we care and provide for them will help them grasp the heavenly Father’s love.<\/span><\/div>\n
Second, parents are responsible for presenting the principles needed for living a godly life. One way to do so is by reading Scripture aloud and sharing stories of the Lord’s involvement in our lives. But actions must match what we say. For example, we cannot expect children to truly understand the golden rule if we act with selfishness, arrogance, or insensitivity.<\/span><\/div>\n
Modeling a godly life is oftentimes an intentional pursuit, like reading Scripture or serving as a family on a mission trip. It can also be as simple and unplanned as picking up a piece of trash on a neighbor’s lawn. But keep in mind that actions and words aren’t always perceived correctly. Check that your children’s understanding matches the message you hope to communicate.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
Your words and actions are teaching lessons. Do your children know, beyond any doubt, that they’re treasured and capable? Are you giving them the tools they need to follow Christ? Remember, God doesn’t expect perfection. He will guide the willing heart\u2014and cover missteps with His grace.<\/span><\/div>\n

My ways are higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts-as the heavens are higher than the earth. People are always trying to diminish Me: to cut Me down to a god who is understandable and predictable. When these attempts fail, they often respond by judging Me or denying My very existence.<\/p>\n

You are not immune to such struggles. Leaning on your own understanding is your strong inclination, and this mind-set dies hard. But the truth is, you can no more understand the infinite wisdom of My ways than you can create something out of nothing. I made people in My image, and I have gifted some of them with remarkable creativity. However, every human creation is formed from substances that I made when I spoke the world into existence.<\/p>\n

Whenever you find yourself struggling to accept My ways with you or My ways with the world, stop and remember who I am. Bow your mind and heart before My infinite intelligence, and worship Me-the mysterious, majestic, holy One who suffered and died for you.<\/p>\n

Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. -Isaiah 55:6-9<\/p>\n

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. -Proverbs 3:5”<\/p>\n

God said, Let there be light, and there was light.. And God said, Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear. And it was so. -Genesis 1:3, 9<\/p>\n

Continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.. that you may become. children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
