GHOSTBUSTER DOCTOR DIES Ghostbusters and Analyze This are two of my favorite movies. Harold Ramis writes and appears in the 1984 hit Ghostbusters. He also writes and directs the 1999 award winning mobster comedy Analyze This. Some of the most beloved and widely quoted comedy classics of the last thirty years include other Ramis works: Caddyshack, National Lampoon’s Animal House, Groundhog Day and Stripes. Harold Ramis who plays the bespectacled sidekick to Bill Murray in Ghostbusters (Dr. Egon Spengler) dies early Monday morning, February 24, 2014 at 69 from complications of autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis. Harold Ramis’ survivors include his wife Erica, sons Julian and Daniel, daughter Violet and two grandchildren.

CNN CANS PIERS MORGAN On Monday, February 24, 2014 that’s the headline on clashdaily.com. Throughout America we hear a sigh of relief. This news is almost as good as receiving a big box of chocolates on Valentine’s Day! In its effort to replace Larry King, why does CNN cross an ocean for his replacement? Especially for a Britisher who doesn’t seem to like America very much plus is anti everything that American values. For three years after Piers Morgan takes over for Larry King, his Piers Morgan Live ratings hit new lows to only a fraction of viewers for his competitors at Fox News and MSNBC. That’s one down. We still have three or four more to go. What person on cable TV would you like to see be the next one to depart?

ADIOS ALEC BALDWIN More very interesting headlines from clashdaily.com: Alec Baldwin says goodbye to public life. I’ve lived this for 30 years, I’m done with it. In a long piece that appears under his byline Sunday night in New York Magazine‘s Vulture blog, the 55 year old Baldwin says that being labeled a “homophobic bigot” in the media after an altercation with a paparazzo in November 2013 was the last straw for him as a celebrity. Does this sound familiar? Alec goes on: I loathe and despise the media in a way I did not think possible. This is the last time I’m going to talk about my personal life in an American publication ever again. Remember when Alec Baldwin reportedly tells a German magazine that he will leave America if George W. Bush is elected president? He never ships out.

MIKE BRAUN [ex KWTX-1230 Waco, TX] (Ft. Worth, TX) Subject: Former radio person dies. Jim, I’d like to pass along another recent death of someone connected to Texas broadcasting. Hazel Birma Bowen, 94, of Hurst, Texas, passed away Feb. 15. Her obit in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram (Feb. 19) notes she began a career in radio at WBAP (probably in the late ’50s). Later, she joined the Star-Telegram as personnel manager and worked at the newspaper for 24 years. Maybe some of your readers will remember her. TRIVIA ANSWER: Who in their right mind will pay money to watch TV? Who will pay for a bottle of water? Today, Americans pay an average of $90 a month to watch cable TV programs which we cannot live without. Today it is fashionable to carry a plastic bottle of water that we purchase at the local grocery store. In 1965, Charles Dolan builds first urban underground cable television system in the United States called Sterling Manhattan Cable. Time-Life, purchases 20% of Dolan’s company. In summer 1971, Dolan debuts cable-originated television service The Green Channel. Dolan and Time-Life executives rename it Home Box Office. On November 8, 1972 HBO launches. As of August 2013, HBO’s programming is available to approximately 32,445,000 television households.

CHUMBE SALINAS [avid radio and Willie Nelson fan] (Benavides, TX) Subject: Thanks you! 🙂 Thanks for the greetings on tomorrow’s newsletter, Jim! That’s very sweet of you!!! Hope you and Lacy are doing good and survived the winter. As for me, I’m real glad to hear the birds singing their spring songs now!!! Any winter that lasts more than 3 days is too long for me! 🙂 God bless! Chumbe

ROBERT DUVALL [Lt. Col. Bill Kilgore in ‘Apocalypse Now’] I love the smell of napalm in the morning.
