Fourteen inches of rain in\u00a0twenty-four hours had\u00a0 left our basement- and everything in it- awash in water.\u00a0 As I viewed all\u00a0 my stuff floating in the much, I realized that my years of hoarding had finally\u00a0 caught up with me.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
I am a clutter bug.\u00a0 Every thing I own seems to\u00a0 have some emotional connection, so I have a hard time discarding or donating\u00a0 things that people have given me.\u00a0 My attic, my basement, my cabinets and\u00a0 even my in box overflow with clutter.\u00a0 Every once in a while I go on a\u00a0 tear, thinking.\u00a0 My children will hate me when I die leaving this mess for\u00a0 them!\u00a0 I’m trying to throw out : Wait….this was given to me by my niece,\u00a0 and if I give it away she may think I don’t value\u00a0 her.<\/span><\/div>\n

I know there are people who could really use my\u00a0 things, but still I hold on tight.\u00a0 The flood in the basement made the\u00a0 decision for me:\u00a0 Everything had to go.\u00a0 And later, when it was all\u00a0 gone, I thought about how other stuff – unforgiveness ,\u00a0\u00a0 bad\u00a0 habits,\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0impatience with my husband, jealousy \u00a0toward a\u00a0 friend-clutters up my spiritual life and keeps me fro focusing on the blessings\u00a0 God has for me now.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
If I\u00a0 am busy holding on to all of my stuff, then I am not looking at the glorious and\u00a0 free present and future God has for me.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

Perseverance in\u00a0 Prayer<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

\nAs a pastor, I speak with many people about their spiritual journey. From\u00a0 these interactions, I know that most individuals are not satisfied with their\u00a0 prayer life. They lack anticipation and faith, and time with God feels empty.\u00a0 Most likely, this is why many Christians pray so little and so\u00a0 passionlessly.
\nYesterday, we began looking at obstacles to a healthy prayer life. Let\u2019s\u00a0 explore one more hindrance that blocks vibrant communication between God and us:\u00a0 impatience.
\nMost of us have at some point brought our supplication to Jesus vigorously\u00a0 but did not see the desired results. Unfortunately, humans are, by nature,\u00a0 fainthearted. We get weary of asking and listening when all we perceive is\u00a0 silence. Remember, though, that God is not some \u201ccosmic bellhop\u201d; He does not\u00a0 act on our cue. In fact, if we could see the big picture as He can, we would\u00a0 gladly wait for His way and time.
\nActually, I believe that we benefit by not receiving all that we request.\u00a0 Understanding this concept is a sign of spiritual maturity. When we are\u00a0 thoroughly satisfied with the Lord\u2019s presence, our relationship with Him will\u00a0 flourish, even when we don\u2019t get all we ask. When that is the case, we grasp\u00a0 what prayer is\u2014not a long want list, but a relationship.
\nBarriers can develop if we persistently cry out to God but nothing changes.\u00a0 Continue to pray. Beyond this \u201cwall,\u201d you\u2019ll sense God\u2019s presence, where you\u00a0 will find peace, joy, and awesome glimpses of His glory. This will be completely\u00a0 satisfying, even if He never gives you exactly what you requested.
