Billion dollar radio station-group acquisitions mark the 2013 summer. But the sale of low power (LP) WJDP FM Pigeon Forge, TN sets a new low price record at just $10 plus a 2003 Coachmen Cross Country motor home. Jim, In all of the obits I have read about the passing of David Frost, none mention the scam he was involved in, when ‘Evel Knievel attempted to jump the Snake River Canyon in September of 1974. I know, because I was there with him. Frost had been hired by Bob Arum, the boxing promoter who had put this pay-per-view telecast together. Frost would anchor the closed-circuit telecast. Astronaut James Lovell, the commander of the ill-fated Apollo 13 mission to the Moon, was hired by Arum to be the analyst from NASA who would describe the rocket that would power the Evel one across the Canyon. I was hired by Arum to be the reporter on the other side of the Canyon to interview him when he landed. That interview never took place of course. I tell the whole story about this snake oil event involving Frost, Lovell and myself in my forthcoming book, “Here Now the News”…due in late October. Frost never wanted his name linked to this fraud of a sporting event and it appears never will be. I would be happy to send you the chapter on this scam if you are interested.
