CHUCK CASHMERE (San Diego-Carlsbad, CA) Subject: Tootsies. I noticed you recognizing Tooties bar in Nashville. When I was there in 98/99 or 95/96 I was amazed at the incredible autographs on Tooties old bar counter. I mean people who were in country music back in the 40’s and 50’s who hung around Tooties after it opened and left their calling card. I was back there in 2010 working on my CD Chuck Cashmere Nashville Sessions and the 1st thing I noticed upon visiting Tooties was the bar counter with those fantastic autographs was missing. Question some of your readers might be able to answer “Where is that bar counter now? I’m really curious to know. (www.chuckcashmere.com)

JOHN HALE (Dallas-McKinney, TX) Subject: Jim Rose Remembers Radio (#1185) March 29, 2013 [Friday] Hi Jim, Your mention of your early days in Terrell and McKinney jogged some thoughts of my early days working up in the Sherman-Denison market. Salaries back in the early seventies certainly weren’t extravagant, and I was married, with a young daughter. I think I might have been clearing a little over $500.00 a month after taxes, and my wife had a part time job working at the old Gibson’s in Sherman. I took a part time job working at a pizza place in Denison, not so much because of the extra money (It wasn’t very much.) as for the fact the place would let you make your choice of a large pizza at the end of your shift to take home. My family and I could count on having a late night pizza at least three or four nights a week. You do what you can to keep the wolf away from the door. John Hale; McKinney, Texas

BOB ALLEN [KTRK TV ABC CH13 Sports Director for 39 years retired on Friday, January 18, 2013] (Houston, TX) When Steve Lundy went from KILT (610) to WLS (890) in Chicago, I was listening to his show that we could pick up in Nacogdoches. He was playing “Cherish” by the Association and did an amazing intro, where he got very close to the mike over the opening music bed and “From out of your past Chicago, the Association…and Cherish…” right up to the vocal…It was so good I thought I’d steal it and use it on my airshift in Nacogdoches…First thing I do is find “Cherish” put it on the turntable, get close to the mic and say, “From out of your past Chicago, the Association…and Cherish…”I was so proud of myself as I flipped off the mic switch, until I realized I was in Nacogdoches and not Chicago…Dumb adz move of the month. Bob

He records Sunny to fill space in an album at the end of a recording session. In summer 1966, Sunny lasts for two weeks at #2 on Billboard with sales of over a half million copies. Bobby is also one of the first black artists ever to appear on the Grand Ole Opry. On Tuesday, August 3, 2010 R&B songwriter and singer Bobby Hebb passes away at 72 from lung cancer. BRUCE HATHAWAY [legendary DJ on KTSA-550 & KTFM FM] (San Antonio, TX) Great stories…Keep up the good work!!

JOAN PATE-DAY [late Sam Pate’s sister] (Cedar Creek Lake, TX) Subject: Cowboy Weaver. Although he was much older than I was he always called me his girlfriend. He gave me one of his books of matches with his picture on it and said I was lucky as he usually charged 25 cents for them. He had no hair at all which was why he wore the hat. The reason I know this is because my mother refused to let him sit at our table with a hat on. (I am still that way about the hats) Is that enough for now?
