Bradford Files: Batteries Not Included Whaaaat!
Have you ever purchased a new device or toy and discover once you got it home it says batteries not included on the packaging? Or a similar example is a restaurant offering a fantastic breakfast special and it doesn’t include coffee? In the case of the product that doesn’t include the batteries, I decided to do a little investigating. The batteries that were not included in the product I purchased can be bought wholesale in bulk for $.25 each. So for the cost of twenty five cents this manufacturer made all their customers angry, instead of just adding the $.25 to the price in the first place. What are these marketing geniuses thinking? Now what does all of this have to do with the Music Business? Well here is an example: You can purchase for a concert certain acts for such and such a price. However this act does not come with their own sound, lights, staging, etc. So therefore after purchasing the artist for the night, you are now faced with all the extra expense and time it will take to organize the event. If the artist had just simply asked for a fee that included all the necessary elements needed to put on a top notch concert, then the promoter would have been way ahead of the game. So I say the act that comes with the most amenities is probably the act that is working the most.

You are so right about the batteries, where I live they never really give any batteries with anything. Sometimes the batteries even cost more than the item. I can remember at least once or twice that I had put the product back on the shelve due to the fact that I didn’t feel like getting batteries. The worst of all is you will buy a great little toy for a child and then you have to explain to her or him that it will not work without batteries and that their Mom or Dad will have to go out and buy batteries as you were not aware that it did not come with batteries. Then 9 out of 10 times the toy is broken even before the batteries arrive. Ok I made all that up but I am sure that this has happened to someone….. didn’t it……hello…..is there someone out there…..heeeelllllllllllooooooooooo………Ok…….I’m talking to myself again
