Garth Brooks and Blake Shelton have released their much-anticipated duet, “Dive Bar,” to country radio, showcasing the party-animal lurking within each of the country icons. Co-written by Brooks with Mitch Rossell and Bryan Kennedy, the good-timing summer anthem is said to live within the same thematic universe as Brooks’ drinks-in-the-air classics “Friends in Low Places” and “Two Pina Coladas.” And in a preview posted to Brooks’ Instagram, fans can get a taste what “Dive Bar” is serving up.
“Gonna spend the weekend in the deep end / The water’s fine ya’ll so just come on in / To the deep end of the dive bar,” the superstar duo sing in the song’s chorus. Speaking in a wide-ranging interview with Billboard, Brooks explains that he chose Shelton for the duet after The Voice coach delivered his current single “God’s Country”on the 2019 ACM Awards, and that he was surprised with how “Dive Bar” turned out. Specifically, Brooks says fans might notice that Shelton’s voice sounds strangely familiar.
“My biggest shock in all of this is I think I know my voice and I think I know his,” the Country Music Hall of Famer says. “But there were several times I looked over at Matt, the engineer, when we were mixing it going, ‘Is that him or me?’ The track is playing now on radio stations across the country, and will be available for streaming and purchase exclusively through Amazon Music as part of Amazon Prime Day.
