On a day that I was feeling particularly tired, I decided to look up the word weariness in Webster’s Dictionary. The definition read: “Warn out in strength, endurance, vigor, or freshness. Having one’s patience, tolerance or pleasure exhausted.
It almost sounds, as Webster were describing a busy mother, doesn’t it ? And with a large family and all that goes with such a life style , it is not unusual for me to find myself in this state. But weariness is not always. I often find my emotions and my spirit suffer as well.
The world is full of weary people. Many are beaten down by worry, disappointments and by despair. Some find so little meaning in their lives that they wonder why they are existing. Others are simply bored to death. Still others are frustrated spiritually because of moral defeats, weary of struggling with their heavy burden of guilt.
Christians are not immune to weariness either external or internal. But the difference is that we know to whom to go (Jesus said “Come to me by your selves to a quiet place and get some rest” (Mark 6:31)
