JAY WEAVER [ex KLBK–1360 Lubbock; KBUY–1540 Fort Worth; Several Other Places] (DFW-Hurst, TX) I was hired by Jay Elston in December, 1966 at KCUL. After a three month run at KDNT in Denton where I came to D-FW from Lubbock. I knew Kurt Meir owned the station at that time and the family had sold the station to John Walton who was to take over in January, 1967 with the new KBUY call letters. In the meantime, Meir bought KJIM – 870 AM, a Fort Worth daytimer. My back up plan was to try KJIM if I couldn’t land a spot at KCUL. The new GM at KBUY was Roy Lemons. Lemons was a graduate of Texas Tech, as was I so we got along well. Within a month, about half of the staff left. Bill Mack was doing Mornings at that time, and left for KPCN. Mid-Mornings was Eddie Stewart who left (not sure where he went), but Bo Powell stayed doing afternoons with new PD Mike Bradley doing afternoon drive. The over night jock-engineer, Morgan Choat had already been there for several years and actually stayed until the 80’s when he left to go to KJIM with the Meir Family. Last I heard, Walton still owned an AM-FM station combo in Ruidoso, NM using the KBUY call letters, at 1360 AM and 105.9 FM.

KAREN MASSEY [Duckie ex morning host on KITE-930, KXOL-1360, KBUC FM] (San Antonio, TX) Subject: KXOL Ft. Worth. When I knew Casey (Jones) he only had 2 boys. Did he have the girl before them or after them with another wife. I am sorry to hear he died. As usual what did he die of? I always want to know that question. In fact when I pass on I will have the preacher say, what I died of. It’s like a sentence that has not been finished. If somebody passes away don’t you want to know what they died of. It’s important that the people that knew you in life know how you died. It puts closure to the dead person. Anyway, enough of that, so you and I had to be in Ft. Worth about the same time and didn’t know it. I was so lonely in Ft. Worth I just didn’t have a true home base like I did in San Antonio. I liked Ft. Worth and the rodeo was the best but I really needed some true friends. Duckie ! Director of Sports Sales (www.baywoodhotels.com)
