BOB SHANNON [ex KAFM FM, KZEW FM, KLIF-1190, KELP-930/El Paso] (Richfield, MN) Subject: Bob Shannon’s, Turn it Up! I haven’t heard Ed Miller’s name in years. What a character. While my bio doesn’t include it, I was at KAFM (FM) from ’75 to ’77 and at KZEW (FM) from ’77 to late ’79, which is to say I love Dallas radio; I have a story about KLIF (1190) that I wrote for R&R that’s not in the book. And yes, Jim, I remember you, too, which makes your comments especially gratifying. Please share the news about my ebook with all your friends. I don’t care about the money (it’s not much) but if enough folks spend $5.99 I’ll write volume 2. Got to get these stories down before we forget.

WALT PINTO [WLML FM (100.3) Palm Beach, FL middays] (Cobalt, CT) Subject: Jim Rose Remembers Radio (#1645) August 25, 2017 [Friday] Nope, read it yesterday. Didn’t know about WABC (770) refusing to play Pat Boone. In fact have both emails still in my “in” box. There’s a local guy I hired named “Cadillac John Seville. When I saw the news about Jack, checked to make sure it wasn’t him. No idea why you’re getting the deleted message. wp
WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT TODAY’S RADIO? WHERE IS RADIO HEADED? We want to know what is on your mind. Let’s start a radio revolution. Give us your opinion about today’s radio or whatever is on your mind at Rosekkkj@earthlink.net.
MIKE MARSHALL [former DJ on KNOK-970, KBOX-1480, KFJZ-1270, AFN-BERLIN, WFAA-820/570, KPRC-950, KXYZ-1320, KULF-790, KQUE FM, KBME-790] (Houston, TX) Subject: WFAA. Jim, WFAA in Dallas and WBAP in Fort Worth, two totally different stations in what was then two completely different markets, switched frequencies with each other four times every day. So just after the ABC news on 570, I would give the legal ID, “This is WFAA 570, Dallas”, listen for the guy in Fort Worth to do his, then push a big red button that would switch the output of the board to the 50,000 watt 820 frequency and do another ID, “This is WFAA 820, Dallas” and slide into the NBC news at :00. I think I can safely say that not one of the listeners in Dallas or Fort Worth could, if asked, fully explain this.
TRIVIA ANSWER: In the original Rocky movie, when the morning alarm clock goes off for Rocky’s run, Philadelphia, PA radio legend Don Cannon is the voice on the radio.
JAY WEAVER [ex KLBK–1360 Lubbock; KCUL-1540, KBUY-1540, Fort Worth, KPCN-730 Dallas, Several Other Places] (DFW-Hurst, TX) Subject: Radio Short Stories. It’s interesting how a story by someone can set another’s mind to remembering another good story. I think that’s why I enjoy spending time with folks that were in radio because the stories can go on forever. Thanks for sharing yours! Love to talk about and tell radio stories with a group of radio guys. Problem is there aren’t too many of us around anymore. But your column keeps things headed in that direction. For that, “Thanks, again!”
