STAN DEYO [Art Bell Somewhere in Time guest commentator and author former Dallas, TX Kimball high school classmate] (Pueblo West, CO) Subject: Do you remember this guy? Shalom, Jim, I am trying to remember the name of a night time KLIF (1190) radio host back in the 1960’s. His name is on the tip of my tongue. He was a feisty talk-back host before Art Bell’s time. I used to listen to him at work. Seems like his name was not long. I have searched without success. Stan Deyo Enterprises, LLC (http://standeyo.com)

BUD BUSCHARDT [WFAA TV CH 8 Director, ex DJ on KVIL FM, WFAA-570, ABC sat radio DJ] (Dallas, TX)Jim, I cannot help but think of one at KVIL that happened during this time of the year. Jody Dean has told it in the past during the holidays on his KLUV show. KVIL was on the 5th floor of a tall bank building on Central Expressway and Mockingbird. It was about the first week of December on a Sunday and Jay (our handy man) was decorating a Christmas tree in the station lobby with the doors to our suite opened. The elevators were right outside the door. At 2 pm I finished doing my Oldies show and went to the lobby to see if Jay needed any help. Every few minutes or so we could hear a female voice yelling “Help”. We tried for a few minutes to figure out where the voice was coming from. Finally we noticed that the voice synced with the lights on the elevator every time it passed our floor. One of our accountants had come to work on Sunday to get caught up before the holidays. The elevator had experienced a “mal-function” and was going from the basement to the top floor of the bank building. She might have been riding for a good 10 minutes or so and knew that there would be someone arriving or leaving our studio in the mostly deserted building. She saved her loudest “Help” for our floor. Fortunately, Jay knew the ropes of the building and was able to go to the basement and stop the elevator so our accountant could get out. If he had not been there to help, she might have been riding up and down until Monday morning. Oh yes, this was back in the days when people did not have the luxury of cell phones! And of course, the emergency phone in the elevator was not working. Have a good one! Bud

CHUCK DUNAWAY [ex WABC-770, KILT-610, KLIF-1190, KBOX-1480, WKY-930 & WIXY-1260] (Houston-Katy, TX) Subject: morning thought. I woke up at 5:30 this morning…which is not unusual. I had some time to pet Tuffy and look at Kendall’s wall of awards and achievement certificates…and, as always, I realize how lucky I am to have such a “life” treasure as Kendall Alizon Mackie, who chose to become Kendall Alizon Dunaway…As ELP sang…”oooh what a Lucky Man I am” (www.chuckdunawaydj.com/)
JASON WAYNE [ex KNOW-1490] (San Antonio, TX) Very interesting about Dallas radio, as I grew up in Dallas, and was mostly a KBOX (1480) fan while most people were KLIF’ers (1190). Did you get many calls from across the country while on the 820kc @ 50,000W?
TRIVIA ANSWER: On June 3, 1949 the last episode of The Admiral Broadway Revue airs as the first comedy variety program on television. It runs only 7 episodes with stars Sid Caesar & Imogene Coca. The program airs on Friday nights simultaneously on NBC TV & Dumont.
CHARLES GEORGE [KC5RAI, ex KCHU FM] (Dallas, TX) Some might not care, since they may not listen to KLIF 570. I forget they are there unless traveling. 570 was one the easiest signals to get when visiting my grandparents in Waller. I use to take Greyhound to see my grandparents, but now it does not stop there. They would put up a flag at a Filling Station for the bus. Almost makes me think of the movie, Journey To Bountiful. 73, Charles, KC5RAI
REBA MCENTIRE (March 28, 1955 – p) Finding a good bus driver can be as important as finding a good musician.
