THE EAGLES SUE HOTEL CALIFORNIA Hotel California is the title track of the Eagles 1976 album. It wins the 1977 Grammy award for record of the year. When it opens in 1950, the Todos Santos hotel in Baja California Sur name is Hotel California, but it goes through a series of name changes, until a Canadian couple, John and Debbie Stewart, buy it in 2001, and begin to use its original name in ads. The Eagles claim owners of the Todos Santos hotel actively encourage guests to believe the hotel is associated with The Eagles.

TONY BOOTH [ex KAYC-1450, AFKN {Seoul, Korea} 1968, KDOK-1490, KLIF-1190, WLEE-1570] (Richmond, VA) Back in the States, Dana Adams hired me to be the PD at KDOK, Tyler but not long afterwards Michael O’Shea hired me to KLIF (1190)/Dallas. I also was the stadium announcer for the Texas Rangers and did a syndicated show out of PAMS of Dallas called “Auto Rock.” In 1974 right after I got married (still am to Marsha after almost 43 years), Ralph Beaudin (who put KQV on the map as well as WLS and later created the four news services at ABC/News) hired me as PD at KBBC/Phoenix. After almost four years there, I went to WFBG/Altoona, Pennsylvania as PD/Ops Manager as well as National Program Director for the Gilcom Corporation. JIM BELL [KUHF FM 88.7 Morning Edition anchor since 1997-retires 2010] (Lufkin, TX) Subject: Jeopardy Trivia. Hey Jim, here’s a tiny tidbit of factoid trivia about Jeopardy. For years, from 1964 thru 1973, Don Pardo introduced the host with “Now, here’s the STAR of Jeopardy, Art FLEMING! The show took a break after 1973, but Merv Griffin revived it in 1984 with Alex Trebek and announcer Johnny Gilbert. Trebek didn’t like being called the “Star” of the show because he felt the contestants are the real “stars”. He insisted that he be introduced simply as the “Host”. He got his wish and that’s the way it is. Jim Bell, who came very close to being a contestant on Jeopardy back in the 90s.

BEN HAROLD [ex KXOL-1360/KBUY-1540/WBAP-820/KENR-1070] (Knoxville, TN) I can’t believe Weaver popped his ugly face in with that correction about WBAP’s /KSCS city of license. it “kind of” ticked me off because I did PM drive news for Don Day right after KBUY went silent. I’ll never forget that place. Harold Taft taught me how to read the “green screen” radar. I learned the hard way on another issue: NEVER CHANGE ONE WORD in a Harold Taft forecast. I was running out of time, so I “abbreviated” it a little. ever see a 5 or so foot mild mannered guy turn into a 12 foot monster with hair all over his body? I swear he NEVER even turned the knob to the news anchor booth, LOL! your friend, Ben

JAY WEAVER [ex KLBK–1360 Lubbock; KBUY–1540 Fort Worth] (DFW-Hurst, TX) Subject: WBAP Radio. I know, Jim – it just get tired of Dallas this and Dallas that. Fort Worth is HERE! That’s not to say I want Fort Worth to have ALL of the attention because lately the attention Dallas is getting is not that good at all. You may not understand, but all Fort Worth is anymore is the “FW” behind the “D” in Radio and TV land, which may really the best to be! By now you probably know my wife, Rhonda – she was born and raised in Dallas. We live in Hurst, just west of the Airport. When we go anywhere anymore we go west to Fort Worth. She can’t stand to go to Dallas – nor me. Just a few thoughts between you and me. Jay

TRIVIA ANSWER: On May 16, 1925 WHAS-840 Louisville, KY originates the first network broadcast of the Kentucky Derby.

CHARLES GEORGE [KC5RAI, ex KCHU FM] (Dallas, TX) Subject: Outlaw Country. I thought it was interesting when KAMC 94.9 started doing Outlaw Country. They started doing it I think before KAFM 92.5. But I have noticed in the Arts and other fields Innovators do not always het recognition. But maybe good at times. Like in college, at ETSU, a Manager of a Pizza place said if I could write a poem about Pizza for him he would give me free Pizza. Me being low on cash wrote a ballad about coming into town hungry… The best Giant Pizza that I ever had to eat. I thought back then I would be another Folk Musician. They say they neon lights are bright on Broadway. 73, Charles George

FRANK JAMES [outlaw Jesse James brother] (January 10, 1843 – February 18, 1915) I was tired of an outlaw’s life.
