I am in Richmond, Virginia but it all started in 1962 at KFTV in Paris, Texas. I was 13, a freshman in hi school and took JR Horne’s afternoon show who took off to Austin to enroll as a freshman at UT/Austin. I did four years at the hometown station and, upon graduation in 1966, Al Caldwell hired me at KAYC, Beaumont. I did afternoons there til the end of 1967 when I was drafted into the military. I was stationed in Seoul, Korea and did ‘Good Morning, Korea’ for two years. Tony (Tony Booth’s Solid Gold Sunday Night on WBBT-FM [Big Oldies 107.3])

JAY WEAVER [KLBK–1360 Lubbock; KBUY–1540 Fort Worth] (DFW-Hurst, TX) Subject: Look Magazine. Hi Jim – For your consideration: Hi Jim! I read with interest your Trivia Question in the May 5, 2017 edition of Jim Rose Remembers Radio. During my stay at KBUY in Fort Worth, my wife worked at the Dallas office of Look Magazine and on one occasion we had the pleasure of dining at the Chaparral Club in 1970 at the top of Southland Center where Look Magazine’s Dallas office was located. It is interesting that Look predicted that TV would overshadow radio in three years, but Look never saw their demise ten years after that date. My wife sat right there in the Dallas office as she and her boss Lockwood B. Segar saw Look crash in 1971 and almost didn’t know what hit them. Fortunately, my wife found another job quickly and our Life kept going.

CHARLES GEORGE [ex KCHU FM-KC5RAI] (Dallas, TX) Subject: Heard it through the Grapevine. I kept think of thinking of a song done by Maurice Chevalier on an album my father had : Please Don’t Talk About Me When I Am Gone. I noticed how many Radio/TV stations have sensationalized the problems of Erin Moran. Do they do the same for Alex Jones, Sean Hannity. I do believe The Word Of God about what it says about Judgment. I recently was testing my radio and to my surprise was able to bring up the 2 Meter Repeater in Grapevine. Turns out my QSO was with a former announcer in KCLE. 73, KC5RAI

DEAN MARTIN (June 7, 1917 – December 25, 1995) If you can’t say anything real nice, It’s better not to talk at all is my advice.
