JACK PARNELL [ex WHBQ-Memphis DJ and PD] (Memphis, TN) Subject: NBC hits 90 years. Jim: I didn’t realize it’s been 90 years since NBC Radio grabbed the airwaves and ran with them. I noticed you mentioned “Laugh In” also; that was the series that i helped launch the still hot “Saturday Night Live”. Quite a few years ago, having watched the launch episode of “Laugh-In”, I happened to see the credits and guess who was one of their writers? Yep-Lorne Michaels. I knew then that “Laugh-In” was the stepping stone for SNL. At the time I saw that, my son, Chris Parnell was one of the SNL stars, so I called him and told him what I believed to be true. Later, I saw an interview with Lorne, and he laid it all out…how he used his experience as a writer to build into SNL, and he came up with a way to use SNL to be as up to date, even sometimes within just a few hours, as possible. He’s still an amazing guy! BTW, Chris was on SNL for 8 years; he now lives in L.A. and is doing movies, voicing animated shows, commercials, and will soon be a regular on ABC TV. Jack Parnell–former WHBQ-Memphis dj and pd.

KAREN MAXWELL [Chet’s daughter] (San Antonio, TX) Subject: Chester Maxwell my Dad Passes. Hi Mr. Rose, I have some bad news my father passed on this February 14, 2017. This was pretty sudden and we had had a fun family weekend. I was going thru his papers and he asked me to email this to you so I have no papers attached to the note so I am thinking it is this information that I have attached with his picture. I was looking at his Facebook and saw your name and how you post San Antonio history. He had mentioned that he wrote a story of I think it was Crossroads Mall. I will have to look at the documents on his computer to find it. His mind was always sharp and his memory was full of stories and names. He loved San Antonio and all its history. Please keep in touch, my heart is broken and my life will never be the same with him not here. Thank you, for being his friend!, Karen Maxwell- NNA Compliant Realtor- Trend Setter Realty

JOANIE GREEN [KPRC TV CH 2, KZEW FM, KFWD FM, KNOK FM, KAUM FM, KILT FM, KNUZ-1230, Houston Taping for the Blind] (Tulsa, OK) Subject: JG Background Stuff. Hi Jim, Well, this is sort of bloated, but here goes…my love for radio started early. In the mid-50’s, our family got a German Saba radio. It had AM, FM, Long wave and Short wave radio bands. It had an automatic search feature to find stations, the sound was in stereo and I played with it daily listening to stations all over the world. I was about 7ish when I pointed to that radio and said to our Saba, “I’m gonna do that!” I meant it and was blessed enough to be able to do it for 40 years. Take care and talk with you soon. Joan
CHARLES GEORGE [KC5RAI – ex KCHU FM] (Dallas, TX) I find I am listening less to the radio. But part of that is because the songs I like I already have in most cases. And those I don’t I can usually fake on my guitar by finding the words and chords using Google. I do not have Cable since my antenna from RCA is more than enough for me. Besides I like Radio better than TV. 73, Charles, KC5RAI
TRIVIA ANSWER: RCA introduces the first 45 RPM single on March 31, 1949. On February 26, 1955, Billboard magazine reports that 45 RPM singles outsell 78s for the first time.
