On Wednesday, January 11, 2017, according to a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court, Richard Carpenter, of singer-songwriting duo The Carpenters, claims that Universal Music Group and A&M Records only pay him and the estate of his sister, Karen, a “miniscule fraction” of digital royalties owed to them. JACK PARNELL [ex PD/DJ WHBQ-560] (Memphis, TN) I just got an email from a friend and former part-timer for a station I programmed back in the early 70s. He now owns a company that advises radio stations all around the country, and one of his employees wrote instructions on how to make sure the “powers that be” get their newsmen/jocks to be sure they state their own feelings about all the news, etc. I sent him an answer telling him that we in the “successful” days of radio were always told to “leave our likes and dislikes outside the control room door”….opinion-wise; that the most successful network newsman ever was Walter Cronkite, and even though he was a strong Democrat, the audience never knew it…he read the news and not his opinions. My Mom’s maiden name is Hart, while visiting Grandma Hart in McAlester Oklahoma, a knock at the screen door is a tall thin young red head asking if Mrs. Hart has some Raisin Bran, and sugar? Grandma Hart from her bedroom yells out: ” It’s that McEntire girl wanting to know who is seeing Mrs. Hart.” This was 1968 or summer 1970. Valerie Hart on air asked me in the AGGIE 96 Control room as I watch Reba on the TV above Valerie if I thought Reba is attractive, Yes.
