JOANIE GREEN [KPRC TV CH 2, KZEW FM, KFWD FM, KNOK FM, KAUM FM, KILT FM, KNUZ-1230, Metro Traffic, Houston Taping for the Blind] (Tulsa, OK) Hi Jim, I worked for KFWD…when they were 2 trailer houses on 360 just south of DFW…dang turntables would rumble every time the SurTran busses would roll past and park for the night. That’s where I had 5 drunk guys come see the broad on the radio and I thank goodness I had the dogs with me…the dogs had them pinned against the car and I got kinda scared, I’d never seen my dog in a crouch ready to spring…he was growling and his hackles were raised. I very slowly walked up to my dog, grabbed his collar to hold on to him and asked the guys what they wanted…”Uhhhh…we just wanted to request a song…” “Okay, whadaya wanna hear?” I don’t remember what it was, but I told them I would try to find it and that I needed to get back in the control room before the record ran out. They got in the car and sped away. I breathed a sigh of relief and praised the dogs for a verrrrrry long time. I heard them barking over the monitor and that’s why I went outside to see what was going on and why the dogs were barking so incessantly. Take care and talk with you soon. Joan

JAY WALKER [CBS Radio Dallas/KJKK FM/Infinity KTSA-550/KTFM FM/Own Jay Walker Prod/Jay Walker Competitive Audio consultant 40 Plus Years In Radio] (Ft. Worth-Hurst, TX) Subject: AT&T – Time Warner merger. There’s no reason we should allow telecom MONOPOLIES to exist. Monopolies have no incentive to provide better service, or lower rates. You may have noticed your phone/cable/internet bill always creeps higher. Service performance is terrible, and customer service does not exist. Even worse, monopolies stifle technology which is why the US does not even show up in the top 10 list of average internet connection speeds. We rank BELOW ‘techno giants’ Romania, Mongolia, Peru, Mexico, and so many others. Our average peak connection speed in the US is 57.3mb which 20% of the US can achieve compared to Singapore where it’s 135.7mb.
TRIVIA ANSWER: On December 8, 1980, during the Monday Night Football game on ABC-TV, legendary sports announcer Howard Cosell is the first voice to inform many Americans that an assailant shoots and kills singer and songwriter John Lennon outside his apartment in New York City.
JAY WEAVER [ex KCUL-1540/KBUY-1540/KPCN-730] (Houston, TX) Subject: AT&T – Time Warner merger. Jim – My after radio career was spent being self employed. In so doing, I almost always used “the small business man” as my sub – contractor, the local bank, the local lumber yard, the local cement company, etc. Still do. Rhonda and I eat at the local restaurants – rarely the “chain restaurants”. We feel we get a better response from local, small, home owned businesses. While I think AT&T does an adequate job at what they do for their size, they are what they are and I feel more and bigger will not be better. We need Time Warner to keep AT&T in line. Thanks for asking, Jim. Jay
JOHN GRIFFIN CARLISLE (September 5, 1834 – July 31, 1910) After we have calmly stood by and allowed monopolies to grow fat, we should not be asked to make them bloated.
