MICHAEL O’SHEA [KLIF-1190 Dallas, TX/WLW-700/KMPC-1540 Los Angeles, CA] (Santa Rosa, CA) Subject: KLIF and KNUS-FM. Hi Jim…I was a rookie PD, looking to my mentor, KD (Ken Dowe) to show me the ropes…then within a year or two the station was sold. $10.5M all-cash and no non-compete (which was pretty normal in big deals like that era). I had heard that the buyer, Fairchild Industries, had passed on the acquisition of KNUS-FM at that time as they had no confidence in that strange FM band…no one had FM radios in those days, so any FM effort was simply “whistling in the wind”. Sincerely, Michael O’Shea; President, Sonoma Media Group; Santa Rosa, CA

CHARLES GEORGE [KC5RAI, ex KCHU FM] (Dallas, TX) Subject: KQXE 91.1. The conditions on FM are good. I am getting KQXE 91.1, Eastland. I heard Archie Bell and the Dells, Tighten Up; Ray Charles, Sam Cooke. They are playing a mix of 50’s and 60’s R&B and Pop/Rock. Strong enough signal is in Stereo. Why radio is still enjoyable, no need to pay fees to a Cable Company. At the moment Playing The Beatles, Please, Please Me, now Canned Heat, Going Up The Country. I also was getting a Jazz and Blues Station on 90.3, but it faded at ID time. Interesting is my more expensive radios were not doing as well as my less expensive radios. 73, KC5RAI, Charles
