GARY DELAUNE [KYTY-810 – KLIF-1190-CH 5 KENS TV] (San Antonio, TX) Subject: Remembering Arnie. Arnold Palmer was my favorite all-time golf star interview with Chi Chi Rodriguez a close second…Dan Cook and Chris Marrou were primarily responsible for keeping my bright sport coats mentioned frequently on KENS-TV. No matter where I went, the jacket was always front and center…Not always to my liking…I had interviewed Arnie several times and he always remembered me. I was doing a stand-up at The Dominion during the Texas Senior Open and wearing my pink sport coat. As Arnie past by he stopped and said..”Hey Gary…how much do you want for the jacket?” I replied; “how much will you give me Arnie?”We both laughed…At another senior event, I wasn’t there during the round and Chi Chi said to one of the officials in his Puerto Rican accent…”Where’s Gary DeLaune today…what color coat is he wearing?”…Not long after Arnie’s wife died, I asked him about her and his voice broke and tears came from his eyes and he thanked me for mentioning her. I was one of his fans in Arnie’s Army. GD

CHUCK DUNAWAY [ex WABC-770, WKY-930, KILT-610, KLIF-1190] (Houston-Katy, TX) Subject: biggest hurricane in U.S. history… The Great Galveston Hurricane was a Category 4 storm, with winds of up to 145 mph per hour, which made landfall on September 8, 1900, in Galveston, Texas, leaving about 6,000 to 12,000 dead. It was the deadliest hurricane in U.S. history. Unfortunately for the residents of Galveston, meteorology was far from an exact science at the end of the 19th century, and they received little warning about the storm’s strength. Even if one uses the low estimate of 6,000 victims, this storm remains the deadliest ever to hit the United States.

DAN MCCURDY [formerly Charlie & Harrigan KLIF-1190/KBOX-1480 Dallas, TX/WMEX-1510 Boston, MA] (Sherman, TX) Subject: O’Reilly Out? Jim…RE: speculation that O’Reilly won’t renew with FOX News… Dan McCurdy, KLIF, KBOX – Dallas; WMEX – Boston; KLBK – Lubbock; KRBC – Abilene; 2004 Texas Radio Hall of Fame Inductee

TRIVIA ANSWER: In 1950, during Country and Western star Red Foley’s show on the Grand Ole Opry that WSM-650 DJ David Cobb on the air christens Nashville, TN as Music City USA. The local tourism board gives Nashville, TN its official nickname Music City USA.

CHARLES GEORGE [KC5RAI, ex KCHU FM] (Dallas, TX) Subject: FMDX. I have noticed a few stations squeezed in between locals on 89.1 and 90.3. Both carrying Christian Radio. Makes me wonder what they teach that they can’t work together. But I have thought that in that a Baptist Church is being built at Buckner and Forney, there is a Baptist Church at the corner of Buckner and Samuell, another at the corner of Jim Miller Rd. and Forney. Makes me think they want to sell Jesus the same as you would Pop Corn Hot Dogs, and Cotton Candy. I go at times to a Presbyterian Church, and I like to go for the Music. But I am not a Presbyterian, and have asked what they believe so different from other groups. I guess some questions a person is not ask. But I always believed in A. S. K., (Ask, Seek, Knock). Rise and Shine and give God the Glory!

JUDY COLLINS (1967) There are places, I remember, all my life though some have changed some forever, not for better some are gone, and some remain all these places have their meanings with lovers and friends I still can recall, some are dead and some are living…in my life, I’ve loved them all.
