TRIVIA ANSWER: American inventor Lee de Forest (August 26, 1873 – June 30, 1961) with over 180 patents names himself the Father of Radio: I discovered an Invisible Empire of the Air. In 1906 de Forest invents the first triode vacuum tube, the Audion, and the first electrical device which amplifies a weak electrical signal and makes it stronger. The Audion and vacuum tubes found the field of electronics and dominate it for forty years, making radio broadcasting and television possible. He is also credited with one of the principal inventions that brings sound to motion pictures. De Forest is a charter member of the Institute of Radio Engineers. DeVry University is originally named De Forest Training School by its founder Dr. Herman A. De Vry, who is a friend and colleague of de Forest.
TONY BOOTH [Oldies WBBT FM 107.3] (Richmond, VA) I have never heard that story that YOU replaced (Alan) Freed…amazing…just simply amazing.
DON SUNDEEN [DJ/Hi Records promotion/TV ad production] (Dallas, TX) Alan (Freed) took the fall for a lot of people, but he was greedy and very public, he was parents with Mosche Levy in several companies. Never knew Peter Tripp, but did hear him on MGM. (www.thedonrocks.com)
ALAN FREED (December 15, 1921 – January 20, 1965) Let’s face it. Rock and Roll is bigger than all of us.
